Allerca Cats

" ALLERCA has produced the world's first scientifically-proven hypoallergenic cats. These cats allow some of the millions of people with feline allergies to finally enjoy the love and companionship of a household pet without suffering from allergic symptoms."

I had never heard of this! Is this new?

Lookie at this price:

Priced at US$3,950*, the cost of an ALLERCA kitten is similar or less than some of the more exotic cat breeds available today.

A processing and transportation fee of US$995 is due eight weeks prior to delivery.

For those customers who just can't wait to own an ALLERCA GD kitten, ALLERCA has introduced a Premium Placement program that can reduce the waiting time from two years or more to a few months. The Premium Placement fee is $1,950 and is payable at time of initial order.

So, if I want a hypoallergenic kitten, and now, I will need $6895. Whoa...

Money can do anything!

Manage an ALLERCA independent franchise and join the team that makes ALLERCA the world's leader in lifestyle pets.
Ok, it seems more like a lucrative business empire rather than a cat breeder. I have this image of breeding cats being bred young and often, and the money being the most important thing rather than the cat's health.

ALLERCA has produced the world's first scientifically-proven hypoallergenic cats.
Sounds like they're talking about a new drug rather than a cat!

Does the shipping fee ($995) apply if I live in San Diego/ Southern California?

Our processing, transportation and kitten preparation fee is $US 995.00 and is not solely for the delivery cost. This cost includes 2 FDA approved home allergy tests, a home environment test, updated vaccinations through delivery, your kitten spayed or neutered, microchip identifier implant, one year of veterinary health insurance, private air courier and delivery to a local ALLERCA certified veterinarian - plus a welcome pack to settle your ALLERCA kitten into its new home.
I'd love to hear from anyone who knows anything about these people!!! They must be making a fortune in their "lifestyle" cats!

Edit: Uck! The more I read their website the more I can't stand them!!!! They don't mention anything about the environment the kittens are brought up in, the conditions they're kept in, or anything like that!

Under development - which I thought might be about the kittens' growth and development, it says "The ALLERCA research and development team placed the company in a unique position to produce the world's first scientifically-proven hypoallergenic cat."

These cats are just a science experiment

The science seems solid based on what I know causes cat allergies, but man... that is A LOT to pay for a cat!! Are they crazy?? I guess they would justify it by the cost of "development." I wish they had pics of the cattery... I wonder how well they are treated.

Someone started a thread on this very topic in the IMO thread- check it out! Several people made some good points on it
. Here's the link
http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88580

(Also, Hypo does not mean allergy free....just less.
So those cats are not completly allergy free....from the amount of money the company is asking for.....it seems like the company is just trying to make a profit off of allergy suffers. I think that is just cruel. This will definitely turn into some type of "kitty mill"...I hope I'm wrong...)

I just hate that they mention nothing about the breed of cat itself - personality traits, colours, nothing!!! I'm going to head off to IMO to rant there as well...

OH yuk - that just smacks kitten mill all over it. Mass-production of scientifically modified kittens - I wonder what they did to the cats to make them `hypoallergenic'. Besides, there is already a hypoallergenic cat - the Sphynx.

I didn't even go to their website - in the dog world puppy mills are a huge, huge problem. I cannot bear to think that it could get as bad in the cat world as well, just awful.

That's actually what I thought of first...a big old puppy mill.

For my cat allergies, I will stick to good ole Flonase and Claritan.Plus, the occasional Alavert.
