This is the main story on the news today in the UK
A five month old baby savaged to death by two Rottweillers.
The babys parents were looking after the pub/bar for friends while they were away.

This kind of thing really upsetts me because it could have been prevented.

Everybody local knew the dogs were guard dogs, even the mother and father of the baby must have known not to trust the dogs around their baby,so why did they allow the dogs anywhere near their baby?

And now the media in the UK is once again questioning wether ' Dangerous Dogs ' should be banned.
But what they really mean is the whole breed

Irresponsible people make me so mad.

R.I.P Little baby

R.I.P. Rottweillers

I HATE it when this happens. I was mauled by a Collie (it looked like Lassie) when I was three, and had to have reconstructive sugary on the right side of my face. It is NOT the dog it's the owner. Of this I am 1000% sure!

RIP Baby and RIP Rotties!

I never blame the animals in these situations but humans that she have been training/walking/generally taking care of the dogs. There are no "evil" dogs just neglected scared ones who don't understand "human" being they were never taught.

That poor baby! RIP honey!

I saw that on the news this morning.

Poor dogs and that poor baby

this is the same thing as Dingos (a dog breed in australia) There are places where these dogs roam free, and yet humans are stupid enough to let their child alone when THE PARENTS KNOW THAT THESE DOGS ARE DANGEROUS!

theres more to this than meets the eye............ a newsflash on Sky, saying it is now linked to a murder 2 miles away ! No more news at yet, but all very suspicious !! something really bad is going on !!
oh now they are saying .................it is a 47yr woman that has been murdered and they are STILL linking it the the dog mauling incident
post #8 of 17
oh dear me, it gets worst the woman is the companion of the grandfather of the baby - he´s also been attacted....................

This makes me soo mad!!

I have a 1 year old Rotti Mix named Sheba. She is the most loving and sweet animal ever!! She was neglected so badly to the point she has no front teeth they are ground down from her abuse. Since we've had her, she is wonderful with me and all the kids that are around her, including my 4 yo daughter. She'll lick on Bella and everything.

It's totally owner responsbility. They should be locked up for raising these dogs this fierce. I'm sorry,, theirs no reason to raise dogs to be likes this!! It's not fair,a nd not right!!!

And if you had a baby,, why in the heck would you have your baby around dogs with a reputation,, dog sitting or not.. Keep the baby home while you take care of them..

Oh it makes me soo mad!! And now once again people are gonna start their non stop fit throwing about dangerous dogs!! Any dog is capable of killing or hurting someone,, it's all in how they are raised.. I wish stereotyping would disappear!

I saw this.....and its so sad. I feel so bad for that baby.
I totally AGREE it is all in BAD ownership..........I mean were they using the dogs for guarding? I mean, there just had to be a reason for the attack.

RIP sweet baby.

The dogs actually had to stalk and hunt down that poor sleeping baby They obviously had their prey-drive in overdrive, cuz the neighbors reported being terrified of walking by the property. I'll bet that the neighbors wish now that they had tried to do something before some baby had to die

The dogs weren't allowed in the house, but got in when a door was left open to move some furniture. They picked up the baby and carried her to the roof They were Definitely guard dogs

Well the stabbing of the grandfather and the murder of his partner, although the police say it is not linked to the death of the baby.....

I personally do think it was done by somebody avenging the death of the baby, because early this morning the news said that the owners of the pub were the grandparents of the baby?????

And now the news is saying the babys parents were the managers of the pub????

I think there is more than meets the eye too.

Things like this make me angry. I would never ever bring a child near dogs that were known a dangerous EVER.

And no its not the dogs fault. it is totally the owners.

Now granted my dogs are considered our pets and protectors. but we havent trained them to be mean we have socialized them very well and they love EVERYONE.

However they alert us to every person who comes to the door, and keep a close eye on them til they see mom and dad are accepting.

Another report in the local paper about a toddler being "badly mauled" by a rottweiler, just 4 days later. The child is, apparently, not critical but suffered facial injuries. I have a feeling there's going to be an outbreak of anti rottweiler feeling over here soon, which is a shame as they're lovely dogs if treated right.

That really is sad to hear!! My rotti is the most precious girl!!!! She's soo loving and sweet,, and their not a mean bone in her body.. She's scared to death of my little 2 and 4 lbs cats....

I HOPE that people are learning not to be soo breed specific with dogs..

There was a story about a dog who bit 4 kids in Ohio yesterday,, and ya know what irratates me,, the dog can't talk, and so nobody knows what these kids were doing to the poor thing...

A baby is one thing - those owners should be put in jail for raising the dogs this way,, BUT kids is a whole nother thing... (KIDS can be veryyy mean to animals, espeically if there parents don't teach them respect towards animals) The first time my daughter grabbed a dog by the tail.. We had a long talk, and asked her if she liked me pulling her hair. She quickly understood how to treat animals.. She's now 4yo and a volunteer with me to help out rescue animals.

Just to clarify that these dogs were not "technically" guard dogs.
Guard dogs are not your average Rotti (or any other breed of dog).
They are highly specialized and trained dogs in the areas of protection work.

Anyone with a dog can attest to their dog's sounding the alarm or barking to warn off intruders but this is NOT the same as an actual "guard" dog.
Your family pet may bark like mad and then lick an intruder to death but you cannot be certain that he will maul or attack an intruder or protect you with his life.
A guard dog will most definitely NOT do the licking part

A family dog is much more unpredictable than a highly trained dog, guard or otherwise...

I agree that this is entirely the fault of the family.
