Spraying urine?

I have two spayed female kittens, one about 6 months and the other about 4. Yesterday I found that one is spraying urine on the walls in their "safe room." It's not peeing on the floor, it's little droplets on the wall. I had to use a black light to find the source of the smell. I think this may have happened before but I didn't use a black light and so never found where the smell was coming from.

What could be causing this? Could it be a UTI like for peeing outside the litterbox? If so, I'll make a vet appointment when the office opens on Monday. They both finished taking Amoxycillin for URIs a week ago, and they also had problems with ear mites and coccidea a month ago but they were treated.

Could it be retaliation? That's what my hubby thinks. We lock them in this room while the rabbits play in the living room. Their food, litterboxes, and scratching/climbing post are in here as well as their favorite sleeping spots.

Or could it be because I sprayed a little anti-allergen Febreeze after vacuuming on Friday?

What can I do to stop this?

I'm not sure, but wanted to bump this up in hopes that someone who can help will read this.
Your cat may not like the febreeze smell and be trying to cover it up.I'm just not sure!
Good luck and hopefully someone with more knowledge comes along.

I would just start off with a vet visit. IMO, it is best to start off by rulin gout something healthwise. I would hate to leave the poor kitty go with a UTI for any longer than you have to. If there is nothing wrong there, maybe try Feliway diffusers in your house/apt? If you think it could be because of the bunnies, is there any way to have the cats & bunnies out at the same time?(cats on leash/harnesses, etc) That's all I can think of to suggest for now! I sure do hope you can figure it out.

Cats don't do things to get back at you. They don't seek revenge or retaliation. There is almost always a reason. Have the vet check them out, test them for UTIs and crystals.

Treat the pee'd areas with Natures Miracle. Saturate the area where they are going. Use the black light to make sure you get it all. The old pee spots will still show up so check all over the room or house if need be.

Buy a Feliway plug in for that room and a spray to spray on the spots the are spraying.

Feed a better quality food or maybe even one for UTIs specifically.
Add wet food to their diets too. Wet is so much healthier and you can even add more water to the wet food to make it soupy so the cats get more water into them to prevent things like crystals and UTIs.

Thanks! I will call the vet in the morning then. I've already cleaned up with an enzymatic cleaner and I'm pretty sure I got it all. I've been working on introducing the kittens and rabbits, but it got delayed a lot because I didn't want the kittens under that extra stress while they were sick. I was going to start with having the kittens out on harnesses this week. I'm worried about the rabbits hurting them so I'll need to go slow. One of my girl buns can be super aggressive when she wants and can do some serious damage even though she's only 2 lbs.

Does Feliway actually work? Money's tight, especially with all these kitten vet visits, so I'd rather not spend $40 on something that might not help.

And their diet at the moment is one meal of canned (Nutro, Chicken Soup, and just found some inexpensive Felidae) and limited dry Chicken Soup.

Some cats are more prone to UTIs regardless of what food they are fed.Just as humans are more prone than others.I think it has more to do with the WATER intake than the food.
Ask your Vet what they feel is the cause of the UTIs.

I just called the vet, and they're scheduled to go in on Thursday morning. They'll be held until they "produce a sample."
I wish I could get them in sooner, but my vet's office is usually really busy and can't squeeze in same-day appointments unless it's really serious.

Actually, I don't know anyone that goes to the other two vet offices in town. Hmm. They've been decent so far with the cats and they're the only vets that treat rabbits for an hour drive.

We'll see what they say, and if it's not a UTI I'll order some Feliway. I checked online and the only store here that has it is overcharging by about $10, and that's after you include shipping from the online stores!

yep that's why I mentioned food as well as increase water intake. But I have been looking into it and cranberry extract is supposed to help prevent UTIs in both humans and cats. Chicken Soup has cranberry extract in it so that is a good food choice right there.

A bit off-topic, but I've seen this posted a lot lately.

I honestly beg to differ. Mitts has never gone outside his box. Except the first time we left him with a cat-sitter. Big poo in the middle of the floor. Thank god the sitter realized Mitts was just PO'ed.

If we fight, I can guarantee a few scratches the next day as he continues to pout.
The list goes on.....

I only posted this as either I have a vindictive cat (but I'm sure I don't) or people are making blanket statements that may mislead others. Not all kitties are the same, and some DO like to retaliate!

But like everyone else says, trip to vet, just in case is a good idea.
