Today I'm on the lookout for a new kitten! I contacted my local humane society, and surprisingly they have no new kittens, just cats....so that's out. I went to a rescue shelter, and they wouldnt let me view any of the kittens or cats because of some disease out break.... so, I've just been looking in the newspaper, and will call around today for a female kitten...

I'd love to just adopt an older cat...but i currently have a 4yr old cat that has abit of an attitude, so im not sure how she'd act with another cat....so, I'll try my luck with a kitten...

Any advice on the best way to introduce a new kitten to my cat?.... should I get another litter box so i can keep them in different areas when im not around?

My cat loves dogs...and never seems to have any problems with them...seems to like the attention they give her, and I think at times she misses my dogs as much as I do....since we just moved into a apartment, in a different city while I go to school....so, a kitten might give her some company...something to annoy her and remind her of home!! hehe...

Intros need to be done slowly.Start by keeping them both in seperate rooms for a couple of days.Spend time with both as often as you can.On the 3rd day, take a towel into the room with the new kitten.....allow the new kitten to sleep on it.After a day, take the towel out to your older cat and let her smell it.I would suggest putting it some place that she will have to go near it.Her favorite sleeping spot, near her food or water.Let her smell it for a day and then rub her down with it.Take it back into the room with the kitten and let the kitten smell it.Rub the kitten down with it and bring it back out to your cat to smell. After that is all done, then you can let them see each other for about 5 minutes UNDER supervision.Start increasing the time as the days go by.I would say to give it atleast 2-3 weeks before you let them have free access to each other.
Also, the rule is to have atleast 1 litter box per cat/kitten and then if you can 1 extra.I have 3 cats, and 2 litter boxes.....one is a small covered one and the other is the large covered one.

Getting a cat who's still very young, but not a kitten, won't matter, because your current cat(s) will see kittens as being just as threatening to their territory and your attention as they will grown ones. That always surprises me!
