I have 2 male cats, who are 2 years old. They are brothers. I have had them since they were kittens. The problem is that they are not very sociable. I played with them a lot when they were little and gave them lots of love and attention.

But they do not like to be picked up and cuddled and they will not come to me, unless i have food in my hand! They will also not sit on my knee, tho one of them will happily sit next to me for a while. The other one even ducks his head sometimes when I go to stroke him.

So how can I make my cats more affectionate towards me?

Thanks
Simb

So far there really is no way to make a cat a lap kitty. It all just depends on their personalitys. I have a few who refuse to be held at all and a few that only will tolerate it for short periods. The only thing that may help is if you pick them up for very short periods and maybe offer a treat when they are up there.

Are they neutered? Neutered cats can be more affectionate. I would also try playing with them without holding them (with interactive rod-type cat toys) and giving them treats.

Also remember that if sibling cats live with each other all their lives, they have no reason to bond with their owner as much as an only cat or two cats from different litters. I have two sets of siblings that I hand raised from kittens and showed tons of affection to. None of them like to be held. When they are laying down, I go up and kiss them anyway!!!
