I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but are flies really nutricious for cats? I am worried sick right now, I just walked into my room and I saw my one month old kitten chewing at something on the ground. I walked over, and she was eating a fly, half of the fly chewed up already. I was worried to death, I mean, isn't' eating a fly dangerous? What if there is like a parasite, worm, or larvae [which every fly is likely to have] in the fly and it lands in my cat's stomach? Wouldnt that be harmful?

Please answer. Thanks.

My cats always eat a fly or two that gets into the house. II dont think it hurts them any.

One of my cats is an avid fly-catcher. Doesn't seem to have done her any harm. She learned the hard way about bumblebees, though.

Anything that moves is open game for cats including but not limited to: grasshoppers, dragonflies (my cat's favorite), flies, mice, ankles...

Flies don't pose any health risk to your cat. In fact, they're an excellent source of protein, not to mention training!

What's worse than your cat bringing in a dragonfly from outside? Hearing the cat *crunch* on it.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I can totally understand your being worried....I always worry too, my LuckyGirl is the fly catching queen! But I try to take them away if she gets them....although I'm sure she's gotten a few if I haven't been home & she lived through it. Heck, she was eating moths the day we found her....so I guess they'll be alright?! No help at all was I????

Flies aren't a problem. What you don't want your cat to eat is string. That would be something to worry about.
