Hi,
My name is Sierra. I'm new here. I live in Monterey, CA.
I found your list on the internet while looking for some help for Max.
He's an 11 year old charming boy who needs a new home.
He is a quiet, well mannered, loyal and loving companion and would be ideal for someone who likes company. He likes to just hang out with his person.
I registered online here so that I could tell all of you about Max and am so open to suggestions on how I could best go about finding him a new loving and stable home. He's pretty wonderful and I want to do all I can for him.
Best wishes and looking forward to hearing from you!
Sierra

MAX is truly an adora-kitty! He looks just like you describe him - a big, mellow, loving guy. I can almost imagine him saying, "Shaka, bro - it's all good"

BTW, welcome to TCS, Sierra. Years ago in the '70s I lived in Santa Cruz, across the Bay. I'm now married to a man who went to law school in The City, and we've gone to San Francisco several times this year. I love the whole area there - I'm from the Sierra Nevadas, so I'm pretty sensitive to what cities I feel comfortable in.
I'm pretty maxed out on cats right now (i'm up to 8) but am sending lots and lots of {{{{happy homing prayers and vibes}}}} out to Max.
Have you posted at any of the local vets? Sometimes they'll know of a good match - my sister has been given 2 cats that way, and my grandson got a kitten from his older cat's vet, too. The shelters seem to be pretty full of wonderful kitties, so hopefully a smaller outreach would be best. Maybe you could take him to work with you & let him get to meet people & get the word out that way. Sounds like he'd make an excellent office kitty for some lucky person.
I hope he finds that special home very soon. what are his circumstances anyway, if I might ask. People are usu. very interested to know why such a wonderful cat would find himself out on the market for a new family.
I do hope that you find the perfect advice here at TCS - there are so many wonderful, insightful members here
I'll keep checking this thread to see how it's going

Hi Susan,
Thank you for your reply. I'm feeling pretty alone right now and your response warmed my heart. Thanks so much.
Yes, the Monterey Bay is an awesome place to live. I've been here since 1988 and love it very much. Max is a local here too. We've been together for 9 years. He's been a good friend to me and I love him very much and want the very best for him. He came to me when he was 3. The lady who raised his mother lived in an apartment that was sold to a new owner that wouldn't allow pets. Housing is really tight here in Monterey so it's not a small thing to move when you have kids so she had to make a tough decision. She was devastated by the idea of taking him to the shelter. I couldn't see that happening either. He came to live with me and we've been great pals ever since. It's just been Max and I living alone. I live a peaceful life so he's pretty mellow.
Now though, my life isn't as stable as it's been. Max is my good friend and I want what's best for him. He needs love and stability, especially at this stage in his life. He's up for adoption for that reason. He's an awesome cat and his circumstances are purely my fault. I'm having troubles because of a choice I made to change careers mid-life. I wanted to do something that I felt more personally fulfilled by, so I left my long-time job as an administrative assistant and went to school to retrain. Things are coming along for me but very slowly. I'm really feeling the strain financially and I'm not sure what the future holds and I can't take a risk that Max will be in an unstable situation with me. I'd love to see him safe and loved in a great new home and then my mind and heart would be at ease.
Thank you so much for your good vibes! It's so appreciated.
Best wishes,
Sierra and Max

Sierra....I would recommend that you follow the advice in the PDF called "How to find homes for homeless pets". You can find it here:

http://www.natewood.net/Rehome.html

Personally Sienna....I would recommend you try to keep Max. The reality is that older cats (as in over 5 yrs of age) have a harder time finding a new home. We have an 8 year old declawed cat at our rescue that we have been trying to place for over a year. It is still kitten season so although Max is gorgeous...he is also competing with a bunch of cute little kittens right now.

I wish you well...

Katie
