    Out of Africa!

For some reason, I did not get a notification of the last two comments so I am just seeing them now!   In any event, Yes two girls, a calico and a torby!    You're right that the Dad must have been orange and I am really curious about the calico's longer fur.  These kittens were conceived in...

Good point!  I hadn't thought about that.  I'll have do some research on proper anal gland care in cats.  Thank you!

Spayed Rescue Periodically Drips Foul Smelling Discharge

My nearly six year old rescue was spayed between 5-6 months before any pregnancy.  in the last three or so years, she has had episodes of periodically dripping very strong smelling discharge from her vaginal opening.  She displays no other signs of illness, is a healthy weight and her eyes and...

    Out of Africa!

Okay, that's the plan then--I read that chicken or turkey is best to start off with rather than beef, pork or fish.

    Out of Africa!

Thank you!  The advice I received here on the forum has been so helpful.  Speaking of advice, as the kittens are three weeks and two days old, our vet is suggesting that I offer them some food.  What do you recommend?  I have KMR and was thinking about soaking some kitten chow in that to make it...

    Out of Africa!

The African cat Diaba's kittens are three weeks old and thriving!  Two little girls. She can't believe how fast they are growing!   Actually, Diaba always looks this surprised.  She has the largest eyes I have ever seen on a domestic cat! She weighs about five pounds now, up from...

    Out of Africa!

She really is!  We didn't know how she would be as she is young herself and this is her first (and only!) litter.  You can see her coming to get kitten #2 off the scale because he was mewing so much!

    Out of Africa!

Thanks so much for all the comments and the Purraise!!  Following Stormy's advice, I went in to help them potty last night and again this morning but both times Diaba was doing alternately for both kittens already.   I think the reason their weights went up so much is at least in part a factor...

    Out of Africa!

How do we know if she's helping them potty?  We saw the boy pee yesterday but there's no mess in the nest otherwise.

    Out of Africa!

One more update!  Just weighed them again today (one day old) and the tri-color girl gained 18 grams and the tabby boy gained 16 grams.  Not bad for our little first time Mom!!

    Out of Africa!

Also, any advice as to kittens this size is more than welcome.  Are these considered small or just average?

    Out of Africa!

Thank you to each of you who weighed in with advice and articles to recommend.  I am pleased to report that Diaba had two kittens yesterday morning after a fairly short labor.  We have a tri-color girl and a tabby boy (I think) 78 g and 86 g respectively.  The female came first and Diaba handled...
