Fear of rabies a concern for feral cats in my town

All makes me very thankful to be living in rabies free Ireland. I have been feeding and caring for strays and ferals since I came to Ireland. I refuse to let any critter starve or be killed if i can help it. Simple humanity. Life on a pension can be a challenge but cats get fed. Always. I have...

    feral kitten/ teen cat

Lovely photos and so much caring! Bless you! But I honestly and sincerely do not mind what my wee briar does or becomes. She is safe and happy whatever and however now.  The variety in my cats is a constant joy and fascination to me.

    feral kitten/ teen cat

Interesting idea.. here I have a feral who after months is still hostile.. letting her develop at her pace and at least she now live atop the table rather than under it!  My take is that I am here for the cats, rather than the cats being here for me! She is safe and well fed and after her early...

Helping our newly rescued stray have more confidence and love us

Let him decide on contact at his pace and as he is happy to give. Hard I know. The feral I took in two months ago would claw me if I tried to stroke her, but she wraps round my ankles and purrs when she is hungry. That is her limit and her way and after the abuse she suffered ( she hand her...

    A new rescue

Thank you, It is I who am blessed with these cats! They delight and intrigue me. Never a dull day... I had never had a "real feral" before and watching her is amazing. Will be a great rich winter in this house...

    A new rescue

I had to back off any "working" with them as I am very unwell and simply fed, changed litter trays etc. Left them to it. Worked grand.. The only intervention the last few days has been to stop my big boy going out of the door when he comes in and sees the newcomers. They know that they are doing...

    A new rescue

A belated update; busy times here. Well I now have five cats in all. One outdoor who would love to be indoor but his antisocial tendencies preclude this. He follows me everywhere outside; wraps round my ankles and when I am out picking berries, lies down in front of me. Upstairs, my two...

    A new rescue

Fascinating morning here! The feral decided to come out and PLAY! I got a chin rub on my hand....such a pretty playful wee cat she is. And new boy is hilarious. He has been totally spoiled as an only house cat. Slowly the pecking order is emerging. Everyone got raw chicken this morning and are...

    A new rescue

And time goes by,, when it looked as if my cat would not return, i also promised a home to a year old neutered boy whose family were moving and could not take him with them. A house cat this one. When I went to collect the wee girl I met him and he is a comedian. So this week I went and brought...

Please help: Ideas to deal with an aggressive feral/stray?

Been there! As the main competition is for food we started putting food down further away from the house. It meant less competition for vital supplies and it worked. We fed "our" cats first then put the wild cats food well away.

How do I tell if collar-less cats are strays?

Agree totally. Care is needed. My cat was clearly taken in by someone all the weeks she was missing. I do nto collar my outdoor cats as they love trees and it just is too dangerous. Also microchipping is not much done with cats here; I am in rural Ireland. The cats you think are strays might be...

Should I Still Be Hoping My Missing Cat Will Come Home?

My girl came home on Friday after six weeks missing so keep hoping BUT get on with your life. My collie had just died so I had room here for another rescue who is under the bed npw and am collecting another this week. There is so much need out there.

    what's your favorite cat litter?

There is no way I could on my pension afford commercial cat litter and I have never bought any in all my ct years. For many years I used old newspapers.. Since moving to Ireland and to where I live now I cannot get those as they send them all back  but until recently my cats went out most of the...

I Need Help Finding My Missing Cat

My heart goes out to you, I just pasted a thread re my missing cat who came home after 6 weeks. We are sure she was being kept in by a holiday  let family and they just dumped her when they went home. Maybe the house when empty was on her territory as she went out whenever she wanted... Possibly...

That which was lost.. please move if not in the right forum. Thank you

Around 6 long weeks ago one of my beloved pet cats vanished. I rescued a litter of three some ten years ago and have two still. Brother and sister, never apart and never apart from me in all those years. They are the beloved cats of my old age, sleeping with me. They still act as if they were in...

    A new rescue

She had in fact made no attempt to leave. A i thought she had gone I was not careful with the doors that day and was loading the car there for market. She clearly had decided the food is good etc. There is no chance of spaying her yet as I cannot catch her. My poor NEUTERED boy! He shot out of...

Do they ever truly become domesticated?

Thanks for this thread which affirms what I am seeing , or rather not seeing , here with the feral I took in from a rescue some weeks ago. I see her maybe twice a day, or rather her south end going north when she shoots out from under my bed ( am semi bedbound) at a great rate for food and tray...

    A new rescue

Dramas here. I needed to worm her and my outdoor cat so sacrificed a precious tin of tuna..crushed a tablet into two saucers, Outdoor cat wolfed his but madam took one lick, glared at me then vanished under the bed. No way was I giving in to that or wasting the food or the meds... Later that day...
