Nutrition for elderly cats - any advice?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to remember if she did actually use the phrase "normal for his age," but there is a slight chance that I added that in there. We went over the blood work line by line with the vet, and she did comment on how various factors change with age. For the most...

Nutrition for elderly cats - any advice?

Hi all, Our 18 year-old cat Simon is down to just under ten pounds, and we're at a loss at what he should be eating to help him put on a little weight. We took him to the vet the other day because he was vomiting bile, but his blood work was really excellent for a cat his age, his X-rays were...

Simon doesn't let us sleep at night! Help!!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I appreciate it, as always. Simon is about 18, so there could be something to this. Other than staying up all night, his behavior is almost the same as its always been, and he's still very active. He sometimes runs full-speed down the hallway past me, then...

Simon doesn't let us sleep at night! Help!!

Hi everyone, So our elderly cat Simon, who used to get in bed with us and sleep all night long, has been keeping us (well, mostly my partner) up for the last several months, and it's making life tiring, to say the least. Simon just walks around the bed all night, headbutting us, touching our...

    Gryffin becoming a problem child!

Thanks, Laureen! I went down and picked up a bag of the Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract today, dumped (no pun intended) the old litter, cleaned the heck out of the box, and now we wait. Our apartment isn't tiny, but it's not that big either, but I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet, and buy another...

    Gryffin becoming a problem child!

Sooooo...over the past few months, our seven year-old cat Gryffin has been occasionally pooping just outside the litter box. Every once in awhile, he'll also pee outside the box, but mostly this is a pooping issue. I realize that I should have taken him to the vet to check for parasites other...

    Making preparations and arrangements

Hi everyone, I'm SO SORRY for the lack of updates about Simon. The entire month of May has been a whirlwind, and I can't believe it's almost June already. Simon is still doing great! In fact, I think he feels better than he has in a couple of years! Yesterday, the windows were up since it...

    Making preparations and arrangements

UPDATE Well, we just got back from seeing our vet--the surgeon is at a different hospital--and Simon is A-OK. In fact, the doctor said that the difference between the last time she saw him almost two weeks ago and today is amazing. His incision looks really good, he's no longer dehydrated...

    Making preparations and arrangements

Just running out the door to work, but Kyle thinks his stomach does feel a little warm. We're going to take him to the vet this afternoon just to be on the safe side. I'll post later about what we find out. He's doing great otherwise--graced us with his presence on the couch last night for...

    Making preparations and arrangements

ADVICE, PLEASE! We had a look at Simon's tummy earlier, and there seems to be some swelling right around the large bruises from his surgery. We called the vet, and was told that it's probably nothing to worry about, but to keep an eye on it. Then Simon threw up a little while ago--very clear...

    Making preparations and arrangements

Hello everyone! Thanks for all the great messages! I had to work last night, and I didn't even sit down at the computer when I got home. Simon's doing even better today. We turned him over this morning to look at his incision, and there were two big lumpy spots on his tummy. Called the vet...

    Making preparations and arrangements

UPDATE! (and it's a great one today!!!) The surgeon just called us with Simon's pathology report, and the tumors are BENIGN!!! Kyle came home last night from being gone for a few days, and Simon was excited to see him--got out of his little bed and jumped up on our bed. He also got up...

I'm very sorry for your loss, but she's in a better place now--and your mom is already taking good care of her up there! You both are in my thoughts tonight.

Just diagnosed as Diabetic, please help!

I feed both cats one 3 ounce (85 gram) can of wet cat food as often as they want it. I only put out about 1/2 to 2/3 cup (60 - 75 grams) of dry food a day, depending on how much our other cat, Gryffin, is whining for it--I hate whining, and I usually/eventually give in. No home testing, and he...

    Making preparations and arrangements

Yikes! I made a mistake! The patch was supposed to come off yesterday! I tried the washcloth thing, but I'm not sure whether it helped or not. It probably hurt like taking off a Band-Aid. I wonder if the medicine ran out and he's been doing fine with it, or if he's going to start feeling a...

    snoring

LMAO at this thread! Simon snores sometimes, but I'll take his snoring any day over Kyle's...who is slowing driving me insane at night! Simon's snoring isn't very loud though, just little kitty snores. Heh, I'm gonna be thinking about this all day now.

    Bach's Rescue Remedy

Gryffin is a worrier, so this might be good for him. He sits there, and furrows his little brow, and you can just see him worrying about something, poor lil guy. He also does this thing sometimes when we walk into the kitchen where he kind of shakes his tail/butt like he's really excited or...

    Home-cooked cat food

Yes, definitely cooked, not raw. I don't think Simon would eat raw food, even chicken, which is his favorite. I didn't think about taurine and other additives, so that's good to know. Simon won't eat any canned cat food other than the "grilled" Fancy Feast, and we keep thinking that it's...

    Making preparations and arrangements

Good morning, all. Simon had his best day yet, yesterday. He drank a lot of water and ate about a can and a half of Fancy Feast, which is a TON for him. He still spends a lot of time in his little bed in the computer room, but he did get up and walk around a little. I'm thinking of moving...

FDA Requires Emergency Permit from Evangers

I agree. Neither cats nor dogs are vegetarians and cats, especially, should not be fed a vegetarian diet. (Furthermore, "marketplace" is one word--I hate it when corporations get things like that wrong. But that's just me being grumpy.)
