Cats eating flies? Is it okay?

Your cats sound like my Liberty. She does the same thing. Bugs are her favorite thing to play with . However, we do have mutant labybugs here that she will not touch -they really stink . -kd

    ?

I remembered today how I got Liberty to start drinking water when I adopted her. The best I can tell at the time she was severely dehydrated. I had her for 20 hours before she used the litterbox the first time . I added a pinch of salt to her water. It could have even been 1/16 of a teaspoon...

    Skin infection/self mutilation

My grandparents had a cat many years ago that multilated herself because of a severe grass allergy. I have never seen anything like it. What part of Alabama are you in? You need a better vet! This is probably either some type of allergy or mite. Both will drive an animal crazy. This cat probably...

    ?

Liberty is about the same way. She will only drink distilled water from a clear plastic drinking glass. She prefers it to be on the end table in the living room (were she always has water). However, sometimes she drinks it from the glass (sitting in a dish) next to her food bowl. I get some...

    Long Whiskers

Liberty has really long whiskers. She lost about half of them after I got her. They came out in a period of about a week. They literally fell out. (Liberty was pretty malnourished when I adopted her so I figure it was from that.) After they grew back her balance was better. Liberty doesn't like...

    Litterbox placement question

The cat experts I have read recommend you have a Litterbox on every level of your home no matter how many cats you have. I figure they are correct. A litterbox can be placed in many unusual locations. This includes linen closets, bathrooms, bedroom closets, hallways or even in an adapted piece...

Goes to show: cats ARE smart!!

My Liberty can take the chain off the front door . This is not an easy task becaue it is old and stiff. Liberty is no dumb cat though. She never forgets who people are. This means she knows who will pay attention to her and who will not -even months after she saw them last. -kd

    Ear itching?

I say it is maybe a mild yeast infection. They can spread from one animal to another. You need to see a vet before it gets worse. I have had to use Tresaderm drops twice with Liberty because of ear infections (including right now). Both times the only visible signs were she itched her ears...

Wet foods the boys have rejected.

Liberty's the same way. Merrick's or nothing. She is a Thanksgiving day junkie. I wish they would hurry up and come out with dry food. -kd

Knot on hip 2 weeks after vaccine

You need to see a vet ASAP. It coul be several thing that must be treated by a vet ASAP because they will not get well on there own. Some forms of the rabies vaccine can have major side effects. -kd

Feline Food Allergies - the most common?

Fish is the most common food allergy in cats and a common cat food ingredient. Corn seems to be the another big allergy in cats. I have heard of cats allergic to chicken, beef, and some grains. If chicken or rice is not going to be a problem then both California Natural and Felidae make awesome...

    non-hissing kitty...

Liberty does not hiss. I do not think she knows how to . I have heard her growl a handful of times. However, she was really upset when did it. She does have a really nice scream that she use in place of a hiss on rare occasions. -kd

what would cause "rapid" weight gain?

Still could be pregnant. If there are only a couple of babies then she would not get big. I knew a cat that had a big solitaire kitten and never really gained weight. (Kittens only weigh about 4oz at birth.)The other things that cause weight gain need to be checked by a vet. However, I would...

    Allergy Testing Information Wanted

There is an allergy test for cats. My vet charges $300 for it. Liberty lost her hair on her belly, legs and bottom because of cat litter. What type of food dishes are you using? The chin is a common plce to lose hair because of a food dish allergy. Plastic is the worst to do it but ceramic will...

    Liberty is eating paper!

Actually eating small amounts. Chewing on stuff I know is normal in a 4-paw declawed cat (I DID NOT declaw her). I am worried it means she is not getting something in her diet . -kd

    Allergy Testing Information Wanted

My opinion is the Science Diet Z/D is not worth a plug nickel. Especially in cats with food allergies. My Liberty is very allergic to fish and it is the most common food allergy in cat. However, I have heard of a cat that was actually very allergic to chicken. (Purina cat food is junk food for...

    Liberty is eating paper!

Envelopes, newspapers, bills and many other things have been her victim. Why is she doing this? What can I do to stop her? It seem to be a chewing thing more then anything. She has plenty of chew toys but maybe she needs something different? -kd

Sarabi is losing patches of hair!

Just curious if they checked her for a litter allergy? Liberty is very allergic to litter. The only signs were slightly thin hair on her legs and hair loss on her belly. When I first decide she just might be allergic to it I thought it sounded crazy. However, it is rare allergy cats sometimes...

    Splitting claws?

How old a cat is this? I personally would take her to the vet. I have heard of cats have claw defects that get infeected or were the claw has to be removed. The younger cats seem to have more problems then older ones. -kd
