    Arm Straddling and Kneading

It's definitely a throwback to nursing behavior. Both my young cats did it when they were babies. They are almost 11 months now; Marie has mostly outgrown it, but Ellie still does it every day. She takes it a step farther, though; not only does she demand to suckle on my forearm, but I have to...

String and Ribbon are For Presents Only

I won't allow linear dental floss in our house. Flossing wands and straight into a covered trash can afterward.

Sylvester is in da' house! (pray that he can stay)

My other feral, Little Mama, disappeared right at the same time Sylvester decided to come in. I'm afraid something awful must have happened, bad enough to kill her or make her run away, and to make him want to come inside. My heart is aching for her.

"Expired" Stella and Chewy's upsetting tummy?

Great that he's doing better. Poop can be a beautiful thing!

Sylvester is in da' house! (pray that he can stay)

Thanks! More good news--Sylvester is FelV- and FIV- negative, his fecal smear showed no parasites, and his blood work showed no significant signs of disease. He does have some indicators of chronic, low-grade inflammation, probably due to chronic diarrhea; so we'll start him on metronidazole...

Poor Leroy! Hope they make him feel better.

Sylvester is in da' house! (pray that he can stay)

UPDATE: Sylvester's former owner just called and said she had decided to let me keep him. So he is now in his forever home! Thanks for your good thoughts and good advice

Sylvester is in da' house! (pray that he can stay)

That's a good idea. I'll also check with the local humane society about the legal issues. Sylvester is worth fighting for!

"Expired" Stella and Chewy's upsetting tummy?

Stella & Chewy's has had several recalls recently due to Listeria contamination, (although none of them listed the rabbit formula specifically).

Sylvester is in da' house! (pray that he can stay)

A miracle happened today! One of the two little cats who have been living in my backyard decided it was time to come in out of the cold. For two months, he has been shy as could be, running whenever he saw me. Yesterday, he was still running--but when he reached a "safe" distance, he turned...

How to repel coyotes without also scaring off the cats?

I have been feeding one feral for about 7 months, and a second cat is now coming to eat every day. Unfortunately, a coyote started showing up two nights ago. (I am using a trail cam to monitor what goes on, so I'm pretty sure it's only just started coming around.) How can I scare off the coyote...

3mo kitten with pneumonia - Praying for Survival!

Can you video what she is doing and post it? Maybe some of the experts on here could tell something from seeing it. (I sometimes even shoot video to show the vet.) I'm wondering if the reason it happens most when Zoey has been sleeping might be because that's when her stomach is empty. That...

3mo kitten with pneumonia - Praying for Survival!

I am so sorry poor Zoey is having this setback! I don't have any authoritative advice to offer... but my instinct would be to temporarily separate the kittens and try to get Zoey into a quiet, dimly lit place where she can calm down and feel safe. Maybe in the bedroom with you? I also would...

kitten suckling on sisters neck/base of ear...

Just an update--the suckling activity has really dropped off during the last few days. Guess they're finally outgrowing it!

Best winter shelter for feral cat

Thanks for the tip about the Kane Mfg pads! I haven't had great results with the K&H pads either--but I didn't know what alternatives were available for use outside. This is where I was looking at the Ark Workshop houses: http://www.arkworkshop.com/

Best winter shelter for feral cat

Sorry, I posted before I finished my question! I'm thinking the most promising possibilities are: 1) the Ark Workshop Outdoor Cat House, or 2) the Feral Villa. So I wondered if any of you experienced feral care-givers have used either of these? Do you have recommendations for or against? I'm...

Best winter shelter for feral cat

A few months ago, I posted about the little feral mama and kittens who were living under my porch. I had her spayed and released her back into the yard, and the kittens are all in good homes now. (Two in mine!) I am still leaving food for Little Mama, and every few weeks I do get a glimpse of...

kitten suckling on sisters neck/base of ear...

I'll look for the stuffed animals. (If nothing else, they'll increase the already overwhelming "Awww" factor!) Ellie doesn't seem bothered by having her ear used as a pacifier. Of course, she's suckling on my clothes at the same time, so she may be too blissed out to even notice it. Guess I'll...

What's the best litter for baby kittens?

Pee-flavored oatmeal... hmm! Now I'm eying the various cereals in my cupboard! ;)
