    In order to keep them out, you'd have to put the food out at dusk and take it up at dawn.  I don't get up at dawn.  And unfortunately, birds like hot pepper, so that won't work.  I know food grade diatomaceous earth is good for keeping crawling insects out of the food, and can be added to the...
