Birman masive hair ball possibly about to loose him!!

My big Birman boy gets bad matting every late spring/early summer. The first year I didn't catch it and it got so bad I ended up having to get him the lion cut groom. One interesting effect was that while he was shaved, my little submissive scaredy-cat girl decided he was only half of his...

Black Spots in Tiki Cat Food, Chicken Flavor Puka Luau

My cats absolutely love the broth. They lick it up first then eat the chicken.

Black Spots in Tiki Cat Food, Chicken Flavor Puka Luau

OMG, thank you.  I have had the black spots in a few cans and have been very upset about it because the food is so expensive.

Comment by 'luvmybirmans' in article 'Best And Worst Dog Breeds To Live With Cats'

My mom had a cat that was killed in our yard by the neighbor's three maurading German shepherds (mixed, but big dogs). The neighbor didn't believe her because they have cats and nothing like that had ever happened between the dogs and their cats. But my mom witnessed the attack and knew who did...

    Why do they do that?

Especially when I am home during the day on weekends, just when I start to go to the bathroom, the cats appear from out of nowhere and wander around me, rub my legs, and just basically be around. When I leave the bathroom they disappear back to whereever they were (probably napping under the...

    Moving Anxiety?

Quick update. I took them to the vet this morning. He said they have a fever of 103 and gave them a shot of antibiotic and a steroid. He said we will take their temp tomorrow morning to see what to do next. I still don't think they've eaten anything.

    Moving Anxiety?

The hair on the back of their necks seems to fall back normally. I ran out an bought some rotisserie chicken which they usually like, but they aren't eating it. They actually ate a few pieces of treats, but none of their food. I looked up hepatic lipidosis and am very worried. It said this...

    Moving Anxiety?

I'm taking them to the vet tomorrow. We all arrived on Friday night in the new place. The girls were noticably scared and I petted them and contained them in the laundry room. They both pooped Friday night. They haven't eaten since. Either or them. It's Monday night and I am very worried...

    Moving Anxiety?

I'm in the middle of a move. Because it's local, its been a little bit protracted. Virtually all of my furniture and stuff is moved to the new place except for a few work clothes and the cats (and cat box and food bowels). I've kept a couple of toys for them at the old place, but their cat...

Finding the Cat Box in the Dark

Thanks. We're fortunate with this one in that it will hit in daylight and it may not be that bad. It seems a bit less frightening than when the storm blows through in the night.

Finding the Cat Box in the Dark

Well, here we are in South FL awaiting the next !@#$% hurricane. Last year I had just gotten the girls when we had to board up. It hadn't occured to me that once the storm shutters are in place and we lose power, the place is Pitch Black, like, not a ray of light. Obviously that's fine for me...

    Need Help!! Please

They love it. One goes to town on the leg wrapped with sisal rope and the other prefers to run up and down the carpeted leg. They both like to sleep on the carpeted basket which has a good vantage perch over both the house and the street. Mine is not really "decorator friendly" so I move it...

Question for breeders of pointed cats

I've also been told that points can darken depending on body heat. Apparently, if the cat regularly sleeps near a cold window or a place where there is a consistent cold draft, that part of the body that is exposed will actually darken.

    New food?

They were eating Nutro Max Cat. One seemed to like it ok, but the other one didn't. I have also tried the Nutro regular, which they didn't really eat a lot of. The best they ate was when they were eating Iams kitten. But they aren't kittens anymore... I also thought I would try the Natural...

    spay wound licking question

The vet told me to watch for if the area of the stitches/incision appears to bulge up. I checked them out each morning and before bed and if their underbelly looked basically the same, I was comfortable they were fine.

    New food?

Genie threw up this morning shortly after eating a mixture of about 3/4 of old food which they didn't seem to like that well and 1/4 of new food (RC Persian formula, which I thought would be good for their hair and hairballs). Could this have caused her to vomit? Or is it more likely a...

flea treating nursing mom & kittens

Is great stuff and can be used on lactating queens. You get it from a vet's office. I get the 6-packs. Each dose is little a liquid vial that you squirt between the cat's shoulder blades once a month; and works like a charm. The directions say for kittens over 8 weeks but fine for queens...

    New Bonding Technique

I've embarked on an exercise regime and have encountered a new phenomena. My little girls seem very interested in streching with me (actually, I am trying to strech, they sort of play and flop their bodies down next to where I am trying to go). Maybe it's curiosity as to why I am on the living...

    Scratching around food??!

When my previous kitten's illness was taking its course over some months (dry FIP), I noticed she was pawing around her food bowl more and more. I had talked with the breeder at the time, who said she was just making the motions of burying her food. In retrospect, I think she wanted to eat...

    Trimming nails

I agree with all posters - get the girls while they are not yet awake. I try to start when there is only one eye opened. I can usually get through the first paw with out them even realizing what is going on. They usually become more aware by the second paw. If I go really quickly, I can get...
