    Hounds and gatos canned food

I'm joining this post quite late, but wanted to add my two cents worth because I  have been feeding Hound & Gatos to my cats for over 2 years. They don't like all the flavors but they do like the lamb and the pork. One of my kitties has IBD which seems to have resulted from an allergy to beef...

    Rayne clinical nutrition

As I stated in my previous post,  I am now feeding Rayne Kangaroo Maintenance to my 6 yr old kitty who has IBD. This is not the same thing as crystals, so I can't comment on whether it would be recommended for your cat. You should speak to your vet about that. What I can tell you is that my cat...

    Rayne clinical nutrition

I have just started one of my kitties (with IBD) on Rayne Kangaroo Maintenance. I must say it is really "meaty" stuff which is a good thing, but on the down side, many of the chunks are really tough, in fact they can't be mashed, they must be cut with a knife! This might not be a problem for...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

Hi, just getting back to you regarding your advice about the D3. I was at the vet's with my kitty this week and I spoke to her about it. As expected she was not aware of the connection between D3 and IBD, but she's open minded and said she was going to research the subject and get back to me...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

I have followed your suggestion. It is now a week since I took my little guy off the beef formula. Actually I'm feeding him just the lamb formula because I know he can't be allergic to it since I hadn't bought lamb in almost a year and his symptoms are relatively recent. I stopped the lamb...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

I know what you mean about the microscope!  The ingredients lists are so small! Presumably the companies don't want consumers to find out what's in the food. Compare this with some of the buzz words you see on the cans or bags,  such as "New and Improved" or "Meatier Flavor". You can read those...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

Yes it is the Lamb Burgini. I just checked the can and the tuna is the #3 ingredient which means a significant amount. I can't imagine why a lamb diet should have fish as such a prominent ingredient!  Furthermore I notice that the #1 ingredient isn't even lamb, but rather, fish broth!  Lamb is...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

Yes the texture of Hound of Gatos does take some getting used to. When I first fed it to my gang, they looked at me like I was crazy. But they got used to it pretty quickly and they've been happy with it ever since, and it's now over 2 full years that they've been eating it. I can't say they all...

No I don't feed them fish either. Just the lamb, beef and pork.  At one time I did also feed them the salmon but they weren't crazy about it, so I stopped. They haven't had any  in at least 6 months. Although H&G is their main diet, I do give a second brand as a meal topper. I do this because I...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

Thank you for your reply. I am well aware that there are few  "textbook" cases and that anyone (human or otherwise) may be atypical for a condition and yet still have it. That being said, I have had dealings with a large number of vets over the years as I have a professional background in animal...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

Yes, chicken is not on my kitties' menu. I always check labels before purchasing any products for my pets and have found in the past, that although a particular formula may be salmon or beef or whatever, chicken is still one of the main ingredients.

Thank you very much for providing the links to IBD related sites. I will certainly check them all out!

    Just diagnosed with IBD

Thanks for your reply.  Your information about Vitamin D is very interesting and I will certainly follow up on this.  I will also speak to my vet to see if she's informed about the Vitamin D implication in IBD. I doubt she is, since in the host of blood tests she's ordered already for my ailing...

That is a good idea. I know many cats are allergic to chicken which is why I don't buy it for them, however I think beef may be another one that many cats can't eat. Yes, I'll start with the beef. Thanks for your suggestion!

    Just diagnosed with IBD

Thanks for your reply.  Hound and Gatos is the food I feed my cats. I live in Canada but luckily H&G is sold in one of the chain pet food stores in the city. My cats have been on H&G for two years and all have done well. It is very limited ingredient food, meat and added vitamins & minerals and...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

I am in Canada. I have been feeding all my kitties Hound & Gatos for the past 2 years. It is a high quality, very limited ingredient food: just meat with added vitamins and minerals, which is why it's known as the original paleolithic diet. I feed them 3 different formulas - lamb, beef, pork...

    Rayne clinical nutrition

Thanks for your reply. I'm in Canada and the diets offered are not the same. In any case, my vet had told me that the rabbit is the maintenance formula, fully balanced, while the kangaroo is not fully balanced so the cat can only eat it for a specific time period. Those are the only two formulas...

    Just diagnosed with IBD

My 6-year old kitty was just diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the vet has recommended Rayne's special diet. It contains rabbit which is a novel protein for my cat since I've never fed him rabbit. I checked out the Rayne's website since I'm not familiar with the company, and have...

    Rayne clinical nutrition

I am also coming to this post very late but I've been doing online research today on Rayne's feline diet as my 6 year old kitty was diagnosed yesterday with IBD and the vet recommended Rayne's. I never heard of the brand so have been checking it out. I am impressed with your comments since it's...
