I do not believe that she has been tested for Lyme. I can call the vet and see what his thoughts are. We have another follow-up appointment in 2 weeks. Since she is FIV+ I thought her symptoms may be solely related to it, but I can't rule out bone infection/ disease or Lyme disease, which makes...
So the vet said that he does not believe it to be a bone disease or arthritic based on her x-rays and the recurrence of the problem being 10 months apart. He also said the swelling I felt was between her arterial bone and another bone in her leg- and it was not painful to touch. If it were a...
I will definitely look into it - she has her follow-up appointment tomorrow so I will ask her vet about her thoughts on a bone infection - and I want copies of both of the radiographs for sure.
Thanks Joseph - I will ask my vet if she believes it to be arthritic too. However, her swelling/ pain etc. only subsided with antibiotics - not with prescription NSAID pain relievers (used to treat arthritis) which makes me think it was more of a localized infection.
You are right - I thought the Fel-o-vax lv-k was the FIV and FeLV vaccination in 1, but I was wrong. I will get her the supplements you recommended. Do you have any thoughts on the LTCI therapy?
Hello LGD! I decided to post her full medical history here just to show you what she's been through since I found her :)
SAMANTHA KIRKWOOD
OVERALL HEALTH NOTES
Found Samantha as a stray on 8/27/13. Estimated DOB 2/27/13.
She was underweight, she had fleas, and had an abscess on her back...
She was previously prescribed Onsior, and then at the last vet visit they prescribed her Clavamox (antibiotic) and Meloxicam (I gave her one dose). I can ask about the western blot test too- and I will definitely retest in 6 months :)
She was vaccinated after testing negative when I first found her. Thank you for all of your advice- I will definitely try the supplements you recommended :). I will join the group as well!!
Good to know- she's only had Meloxicam doses 3 or 4 times in her life - she has one more dose that I'm supposed to give her tomorrow but I guess I won't. The other medicine they put her on was Onsior.
Here is Samantha ... She's quite the ham :)
As far as the fever goes it was 103 but the vet said it was high every time I brought her in.... Even when she tested negative for the virus on 8/37/13. After testing negative, she had the vaccines for FVRCP, FeLV & Rabies on 10/4/13. She then...
I took Sammy to the vet and she tested positive for FIV today :( very sad day. The vet believes that a minor cut or abrasion turned in to an infection causing her pain- and since she has a weakened immune system, she was unable to fight it.
