Question on Prescription Diets and Why they are Restricted to Certain Brands

The other week, a couple brought in their sick kitty and were told to put her on a prescription diet - we carry Science Diet based only on cost- the Dr. gets a good deal. We would carry Iams if the Iams people had given him a better deal a few months ago. As many of you know, foods like Science...

5 Month old Kitten Sick and Not Eating

I am so very sorry to read this...it sounds like you have been doing everything you can - literally- which is more than most people do. We have a young cat where I work - 2 - and he is in kidney failure. He gets three day a week fluids and procrit and recently started gaining weight. I...

Cat ripped open 15lb food bag, what can I store the food in now?

Mine have done this. Packing tape should do it, and then hide it. Mine open cabinets when hungry so in the hall maybe?

Wet Food: Almo Nature, Applaws, or Bozita? Dry Food: Royal Canin Siamese or Taste of the Wild?

Taste of the Wild. Royal Canin is another of the big brands that use by-products, fillers, and grains like Hills, Iams, Science Diet, and Purina. I avoid those brands like the plague.

    Special Kitty Select - OK?

Special Kitty is one of the worst brands. I would suggest a canned food with human grade meat. Such as Tiki Cat. Cans are only .99. In the long run? Feeding cheap food is like feeding twinkles or hot dogs to your kids everyday, and it may save you money, but their health will cost you vet bills...

Is fancy feast truly horrible for cats?

It is horrible. One of the doctors always flinches and sighs when people say they use this. Try Fussie Cat, Wereuva, BFF, Tiki Cat. They all have tiny cans or pouches for around 99 cents.

Borrowing. I took a pic last week of a cage covered floor to walls in smeared blood from a  declaw. :(

to declaw or not to declaw?

I work in a vet clinic and we sadly declaw every day. Sometimes all 4 paws. Sometimes,  one of the doctors will tell people it's cruel to declaw a well-behaved cat just for the hell of it. People don't know what it consists of nor do they bother to ask. They assume it's just some magical...

    Wailing Cat -HELP!

My cats demand food around 9 am and then again at 6:30-ish when I get home from work so they have a schedule. After they eat, they lounge around all day and nap, then nap more, and then more napping. In between they look out the window and the younger ones, under 6 sometimes play with toys. He...

    Wailing Cat -HELP!

I think he just really wants to go upstairs to see his grandparents. But he then wants to come back after a few hours and will cry up there to come back down. They take him usually at least once a day, but he needs supervision around the 2 dogs. He is the only cat I ever have to use the spray...

    Wailing Cat -HELP!

I am not use to asking for pet advice, but rather giving it. I have a 12/13 year old cat. He lives with other cats and there are no problems among them. He is -of course- neutered and has been since kittenhood. He has always been a quiet, well-behaved cat aside from a few spraying incidents...
