Duralactin also comes in a liquid form that contains helpful omega fatty acids that the pills don't have. The paste with the lysine has the omega's, too. I am giving my kitty the liquid form using an eyedropper and I do think it helps her. I think it's a great product.
If this were my cat I would consider investing the money in an ultrasound of her abdomen rather than more blood work. I have just recently been through this with my 17 yr old cat and the ultrasound definitively showed what was going on whereas no other test did.
If I were you I would call the vet clinic and ask the person who answers the phone to ask the vet about this. An abdominal incision could involve a small hernia.
