    Cat pulls his fur out

My apologies for not getting back to this thread. With the holidays and new year at my work it has been crazy! I did indeed look at the link and discuss psychogenic alopecia with my vet; however, my instinct said that he was just uncomfortable in his own skin. Of course, if I was/am wrong, then...

    Cat pulls his fur out

Yes i did! I forgot to mention that in my first post; i had /have two Feliway dispensers in the rooms he spends most of his time in, or was the first thing the vet had me do. To no noticeable affect. :(

    Cat pulls his fur out

Just an update to say that he is STILL pulling his fur out. I believe that he may have allergiesto something outside, because even though he is solely an indoor cat, if i open the windows, after awhile he has long hair pulling sessions. My vet has been pretty skeptical, saying she's never seen...

    Cat pulls his fur out

Update on this situation: I went to the vet today, and after talking over his behavior with my vet, she does think it could be an allergy, more specifically, a food allergy. She reviewed the ingredients of the Wellness CORE food I'd been feeding him, as well as the wet food. The wet food DOES...

    Cat pulls his fur out

I have not tried the allergy/anti-histimine route yet because I didn't want to do anything without consulting a vet. My vet dismissed the allergy idea. Byron doesn't exhibit many of the anxious signs, but one of those links also states that sometimes the hair pulling is the only symptom...

    Cat pulls his fur out

This may belong in the cat health forum, I don't know. Ever since I got Byron (he's an almost 4 year old Domestic Shorthair) in December, he's had an issue with overgrooming and pulling his fur out, mostly on his back, near his tail.  Otherwise he has absolutely no behavior issues; he's very...

    Wellness Brand Help?

UPDATE: I transitioned Byron to Wellness CORE indoor formula, and he has had NO issues since the change. Hooray! I will post links later to the kind that gave him the tummy upsets and the kind that he eats now with no issues. Thank you to all!

    Da Bird Cat Toy, Thoughts?

Great! You may have to do some experimenting to see what she responds best to with the toy. I tried to think about how a bird takes off and lands. Then once he starts to pounce I'll move it a bit quicker and higher so he jumps after it. I picked that up because I used to watch my grandmother's...

    Da Bird Cat Toy, Thoughts?

Byron LOVES it. I bought it just on a whim and he was immediately chasing after it, even leaping very high for it. He loves to "catch" it and go around the room with it in his mouth, holding it triumphantly. He gets a lot of his exercise from it! I do tend to put it up and out of the way when...

Why does my cat do this? (video)

Byron does that--but only with blankets. It's usually when I put a freshly washed blanket on the bed or couch, or when he is trying to wake me up in the morning. I'm not sure why either but I think it's adorable.

    Wellness Brand Help?

Good to know I'm not the only one--and I know what you mean about the muddy stool--and so stinky! Are you going to keep her on Blue Buffalo, or try another brand of food after her stool solidifies? I'm in the process of transitioning Byron to another brand of Wellness--I'm also feeding him less...

    Hi!

Thank you everyone! He is indeed very "helpful" in our scrabble games. So far he is only interested in sitting or walking on the board, nor in the letters so we manage to play as he looks on. Here's another pic of my boy (Most of my pics on my phone are of him :D). In this picture he is saying...

    Hi!

I've already made a thread but after some prompting thought I would introduce myself...I'm Jenn, and I'm a first time cat owner, I adopted my 3 and a half year old boy from the local humane society in December. He's a sweetie and a real hit with the ladies so I named him Byron (after Lord...

    Wellness Brand Help?

I don't think iams is best, it's just what the humane society had him on and I thought it would be easier on him to transition after a few weeks so he had some settle down time and not EVERYTHING was new. I did, from day one, supplement with canned Wellness, which he seems to love. When I...

    Wellness Brand Help?

I did the transition slowly, I learned enough here to know to do that. He actually didn't have any issues until he was completely on Wellness, with no iams at all in his food! Poor boy is stinky and has had horrible gas. I do give him wet food once an day (wellness brand, turkey, he's been...

    Wellness Brand Help?

I've been lurking on this site for a few months (since I adopted my 3 year old kitty), and as such took some recommendations for what to feed my cat. I recently transitioned him from iams to Wellness brand...and though he likes the food, it makes his poops and litter box REALLY stinky. I didn't...
