Male neutered cat, diagnosed with crystals in urine

OK!  Thanks for the suggestion - I told my friend I'd watch her dog for the next 10 day - and now I'm dog sitting - so between dog-cat integration (Zero is cat friendly, but the cats don't know that) I haven't been able to post.  I called back the vet - and it turns out they did the urinalysis...

Male neutered cat, diagnosed with crystals in urine

These are all good questions - And ones I should have asked. At the time, it was emergency visit, and when I picked him up over lunch when I only I had a few minutes... I did talk to the vet on the phone... and I paid attention... but after hearing "My cat is okay".... I kind of zoned out...

Male neutered cat, diagnosed with crystals in urine

I'm glad that you are responding like this - I have the CD diet, both wet and dry from the vet.  I'm probably going to feed both cats this until gone.  My grain free dry cat food will be going to the humane society.  I just read through the itemeized receipt/instructions I got back today.  It...

Male neutered cat, diagnosed with crystals in urine

Hello There! My cat is just out of the clinic after a trip to the emergency for plugged urinary tract. The vet did the normal thing, catheter, flushed his system with fluids, etc. Luckily, I caught it in before it went septic, and Ezra came through just fine. My question is about diet. I...

    Collection for Fecal Exam

This is an odd question, but how long does a stool sample last before it can't be examined for parasites? And what is the best way to store it until it gets taken to a vet. Should it be kept cold or warm? I currently have it on my porch which doesn't freeze but is slightly warmer than a...

How do you shave long-haired cats?

I have no experience shaving cats - but my cousin is a pet groomer and has said that you really need to have a professional do it - cats skins are very delicate, and if you don't do it right, you can seriously injure a cat. Is there any professional groomers in the area that you can ask to do...

Can anyone advise on how to best handle a free adoption situation?

I'm usually a lurker here, but my advice is to talk with the original shelter the kitten came from. The original adoption contract that your brother signed to get the kitten - most humane societies have them. Check to see if there's a line about rehoming animals - some rescues require that the...

High BUN (blood, urea, nitrogen) Levels

My vet didn't too concerned about it, but it is something he wanted to keep an eye on. His thoughts seemed right to me, but this is my very first time with vet care for an older cat and an abnormal test result so I just wanted to make sure this seemed right. Thank You so much for the advice!

High BUN (blood, urea, nitrogen) Levels

Just rechecked the message, Bentley.s BUN was 39. Normal is 14-36. I think the vet said 34 - I'll have to replay the message again to find out for sure. I also think the vet said that 14 is a good healthy number.

High BUN (blood, urea, nitrogen) Levels

First off, I want to say I love this site, and its usually one of my first resources I go to when I have a specific cat question. On Saturday, I took my two cats to the vet for a checkup. Since my older cat, Bentley, is 7 - I had the vet do a complete blood workup for him. Both cats got good...

Thank you for the replies! China is actually my foster cat, and until she came, my other two cats totally ignored Blue (who is a Beta, Siamese Fighting Fish). So when she went for the fish, it totally surprised me! She spends a couple of hours each day trying to go after him, and shes taught...

Antibacterial Soaps - Not all that it's cracked up to be

Anti-bacterial soap is so BAD.... (this is my soapbox, bear with me) There are so many reasons why - - first off they don't work unless you wash your hands for about two minutes, how many people actually wash their hands for this amount of time? - With the misuse of antibiotics...

Hi! When Alix, my Totie Girl, first came home, she stuck to the carpet like velcro. I was really worried about her getting stuck to things. I wondered if she couldnt retract her claws, and couldnt really check because she was half wild, and didnt trust me. It just turned out that she was...
