Thank you for all the great advice. I've been picking up the other cat to get him away from Bo and he starts purring! The vet said the same as you that it's not a good idea that he feels rewarded! OMG all this time, all my years of cats and I still have a lot to learn!!
18 months would be awesome but I doubt it he has lost from 18lbs down to 8lbs. The steroids make him hungry but he eats like 2 bites. I guess I'm lucky though, we have had a lot of time together..lived in 3 states, survived 4 other pets. Bo is a fighter!

7 weeks is the soonest you should wean. After that its anyone's guess. 8 weeks is fine, it's better off with you than on the streets. Get the mom spayed too, your local humane society can direct you on nearby spay & release programs.
Up to the jumping and missing it could have been stress. Stress eaters like the high carb dry food. Cats can jump and miss plus lack of exercise like being locked in a room for 3 weeks can be very negative. You clearly love them but be honest with yourself if you are giving them a good home...
