    Lugosi's passing and the aftermath

It has been a few weeks since our kitty Mr. Lugosi passed away. I posted about it all in this thread for reference. But short version: he was only 3 years old. We adopted him when he was almost 2 years old. He came to us with anxiety issues and would overgroom. He was on kitty Prozac already. In...

Thanks everyone! We ended up rescheduling his appointment for this morning. He passed peacefully and calmly. No more pain or torment. :angelcat:

Sad and final update on poor Mr. Lugosi. Before we received the Phenobarbital, he began fainting and losing his balance. This happened in the litterbox and also while he was going up or down stairs. Our vet suggested we take him to a neurologist and we looked into pricing and what they would do...

Thanks @silent meowlook ! Our vet has given us print outs from VIN including this one you linked to, so I know she is aware of the resources there. She is consulting with other specialists for advice. I feel like at this point we have tried to do so much for our poor guy and Phenobarbital is...

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

Update on our little guy. The vet ran bloodwork to check values as well as checking for any sort of infection (felv, fiv, toxoplasmosis, etc). Everything came back normal and clear of infection. She also did several x-ray views of his spine, torso and tail. Again, everything showed normal. She...

Sorry to the hear that. :(... I spoke to the vet last week and she did suggest trying out Phenobarbital. It did seem seizure-like this weekend.

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

He is having x-rays done when I take him in this week on Thursday morning. They tried doing x-rays in November when this all started but he was too agitated and scratched and bit one of the vet techs :(... I have to give him a heavy dose of gabapentin beforehand.

Thanks. We'll see if anything comes up. He is only 3 years old so I never thought it could be relating to kidneys. His last blood panel came back clear last year but that was done almost a year ago now. Anything can change in a year for our feline friends I have learned. My other two who had CKD...

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

Sad news. Yesterday Lugosi was in a non-stop loop of growling, hissing and attacking his tail. I woke up as usual in the morning, fed him first and then fed the rest of the animals (including us humans). The dogs were in the backyard at this time. I was in the kitchen when he started so I went...

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

We do have strays that come and go through our backyard but they mainly come through during summer. We installed a new fence and that seemed to keep most out of our backyard. We have a camera in our yard that picks them up when they do come through and the last one was I believe in September...

Yes, he has dust allergies. He is on Claritin for this. But, we didn't do this on Wednesday as well and he also had a pretty bad day then.

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

Nothing we could think of. My husband and I mostly work from home and we were both here during the day on Friday and then he left in the afternoon for his usual game night with his buddies. My husband was gone Thursday part of the day but returned in the afternoon. I wondered if there was...

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

Well, unfortunately, yesterday was just a good day. Today has turned out to be probably one of the worst for him. I ended up having to put an even tighter shirt on him that is like a thunder shirt so he would stop self-mutilating. He has been just growling and hissing at himself with his tail...

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

Thanks again for all of the suggestions and ideas to research! We may have discovered a few things in the past two days. First of all, I noticed that an area where he tended to have self-attacking episodes tended to happen by our back door pretty regularly which made me think previously that...

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

@Eurocat Thanks for the brainstorming ideas! We saw his self-attacking behavior before his sickness really came about. I will list out the course of events in his health and meds prescribed. His foster home had begun to notice him overgrooming so their vet put him on Fluoxetine and then he...

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

@Joxer it does get even colder than 20 here. We have winters sometimes where there are days or weeks in the negatives during the day. So far not the case this winter but it's only the beginning. It can get pretty dry in our house but not so much so far as we have had a lot of moisture outside...

    Hyperesthesia Kitty

This might be a good way of trial and error for him. His previous living situations weren't the best as he was moved around a lot as a young kitten and then was at a foster home for half of his life (he is 3 now by the way) where we firsthand saw him get into cat fights for food. When we did a...

Oh ok, I didn't realize that. I looked it up on their site and found this: Find Out if Cedar Oil is Toxic to Cats | Cedarcide. This is their claim of course, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious. We can try something different instead of Cedarcide as well to see if it makes a difference.

It's interesting you mention this as I was just able to speak to the vet. She brought up Phenobarbital as our next course of action now. Our dog, who is pictured above, actually has epilepsy and we use Phenobarbital to help with that. It has proven to be a great drug for him reducing his seizure...
