    Greetings from Fat Kitty City!

Wow, that's some setup. What lucky cats to have you to take care of them.

New to this site and kittens

Just an update on Carl. He is now 3 mos. and today, for the first time, we let him out to mingle with the dogs on his own. We'd been introducing them slowly, holding the dogs, then realized it wasn't the dogs, it was Carl, who runs at the dogs and swats at their faces and hisses, etc. So we...

OK, an update. Carl has been with us for 9 days now, which makes him about 7 weeks. His eye infection has mostly cleared up and he only sneezes occasionally. He's been to the vet twice already, initially for the eye infection and then because the diarrhea wasn't getting better and he was also...

    Feeding multiple cats

What LDG said -- the catinfo site is very informative and changed my views on feeding so maybe you could show it to your mom. Also, cats don't graze in the wild -- they hunt and eat what they catch. And if they have leftovers some other scavenger comes along and finishes it off, so they're not...

    Dry Food and Teeth

You will never convince a fairly large segment of the population, including vets, that dry food is not good for cats. I had this discussion with the woman at the pet store the other day when I asked for a grain free, high quality wet food for 7-week old Carl. She recommended Wellness, and I'm...

How do you get a cat to walk on a leash?

Thanks. I think he's still too small for a harness -- just 1.4 pounds, but I'll be trying when he grows a bit. I tried with my last cat, too, but he was already 2yo when we got him and he just flat-out refused to move. He'd just plop himself down and no amount of bribery would get him up while...

    My Super Sized Foster

Thanks for getting him off to a great start on his weight loss. Other than a medical condition there is no excuse for an animal to get that large. His first owners must have been irresponsible, uncaring jerks.

2 week old kitten, full of lice! (And not pooping regularly.)

Our six-week old kitten came with a severe eye infection and his eyes, when we could get them open, looked like yours at first. I was worried he couldn't see because he tended to lead with his nose when he walked. But after five days of antibiotic and ointment his eyes are clearing and he can...

Newbie to this forum, but not to cats!

Thanks for taking in Buttermilk and for your work with TNR. TNR is so needed, especially in cities. Our new kitten is one who was living on the streets of north Philly when my son nabbed him. He told me there were about a dozen cats living in this vacant lot, including a litter of six-week old...

    Young cat lady enamored

Hi, and welcome. Pia is a beauty, and your story about Pearl brought tears to my eyes, maybe because we just euthanized Thurston a few weeks ago. It's very difficult. BTW, you're a good writer, and I say that as someone who was a sports writer for 25 years.

Hi. What a pretty cat. Have you posted this to the cat behavior forum. Someone there might have some tips for you.

How do you get a cat to walk on a leash?

I've noticed on a few threads that some people take their cats outside on a leash. I tried that with my last cat and he would have none of it even though he desperately wanted to go outside and would run out the door every chance he could. But because Thurston was deaf, which I discovered right...

Mac seems to be settling down. He is still a little too interested in the kitten, but is not acting as aggressively as he was -- he's pretty much ignoring him rather than trying to get in the cage. The big dogs are soooo curious, especially the 2 year-old. He'll lick the kitten when we're holding...

Actually, Thurston came after the border collie, but Thurston was already an adult cat. We put him on a chair and when the dogs came over and starting sniffing him he took one swipe at them and that was that. Healthy respect and very quickly acceptance. I think the problem is that Mac, the...

After putting our Thurston down two weeks ago I thought I was done with cats. Nope. My 20-year old son picked up a stray kitten in North Philly and it's now at our house. It had an obviously bad eye infection so after a quick bath (he was also filthy) he was off to the vet where he was wormed...

My cat won't eat or drink, barely moves

Find another vet. My cat had blood and urine tests done a few months ago. It was all done in the office and the total cost was $108. There is no need for an overnight stay, although it did take a day to get the results.
