    Miralax dosing and response time

OC was diagnosed with megacolon. I searched the internet, found Miralax, called the vet; she said she heard of Miralax for humans not cats. Said she would have her resident research and get back to me. She did and gave me the dosage. OC has been on it for four years, thank goodness as there was...

    Constipation Issues

OC is about 12 lbs and has successfully used Miralax two times a day mixed in his wet food. He gets 1/4 tsp. As he gains a little weight, I add slightly more, but unless your boy is a very bog boy, 1/2 tsp seems like a lot.

Roommate insists on keeping "plastic cone" on his cat for months on end- is this abuse?

Get a second opinion and take it to an independent vet. There are excellent vets and not so good vets, like in any profession. My Lagniappe went to two different vets within the same office and two different treatment plans resulted. The second vet got it right; Lagniappe is now pain free and no...

Roommate insists on keeping "plastic cone" on his cat for months on end- is this abuse?

I feel very said for this cat....no empathy by the owner apparently. What else does this owner do or not do? Hmmm. Glad I don't belong to him. My cat has severe allergies, but the vet has instituted a very low dose of tuna flavored steroids that I give for short periods during seasonal...

    Revolution...Does it burn?

My former petsitter who was a Vet Tech put Frontline on her skin. She described the feeling as a tightening that lasts for about 1-2 minutes, then subsides. She said she doesn't think the cats feel pain, but are reacting to the sensation of tightening.

My cat had colectomy surgery for Megacolon... looking for others

Before having the surgery, please try MiraLax for awhile. I researched megacolon after my OC was diagosed almost three years ago. Vet at the emergency clinic recommended lactulose and if that didn't work, surgery. I was able to get not even one dose of lactulose down my boy's throat. I...

Newly diagnosed megacolon kitty- not responding to lactulose or miralax!

OC was diagnosed with megacolon two years ago when he weighed a little more than 10 lbs at the age of 2. He is now about 12 lbs and has responded beautifully to MiraLax. I gave up the idea of giving him lactulose after one dose. It was torture for both of us. It sounds as though you are giving...

    Constipated Cat - HELP!

MiraLax has saved my OC who was diagnosed with megacolon from severe contstipation. You can get it at CVS, Walgreens, etc. I give him 1/4 teaspoon + a little more 2 X a day. It is tasteless and dissolves quickly in the wet food. Good luck!

My Cat....she's being so loud :( Please help!!!

Response to owner of cat who won't stop talking......Dont' mean to frighten you, but my mother's cat was doing this and learned only after waiting a few months to take Mittens to the vet that Mittens had cancer of the mouth. My mother feels so guilty for not tending to the cat sooner as she...

    Megacolon

I wrote to all of you in May as OC, the stray we brought in at 6 months, had been DX with megacolon at about age 18 months. We learned that he had had multiple pelvic fractures that were left untreated prior to age 6 months and he healed in such a way that the colon was obstructed by the...

Thanks for the very informative reply.I will look into Benefiber. How do we get a finicky fellow to eat it?His procedure was only Thursday and I can not get the vet (specialist) to call me back so that I may ask questions. I resorted to a letter and copied the referring vet.

    Megacolon

My cat, OC, was named by the manager of a bar on Magazine Street in New Orleans; that is where OC spent the first 6 months of his life. He was brought to my neighborhood when the bar began renovations. He was left outside by his former dad and followed my lab home one night. He has never left. I...

    Megacolon

My cat is under anesthesia as I write this. Surgeon will try to obstipate the colon and if that doesn't work she will proceed with the colonectomy.I am confused beyond belief about the diet issue after he gets home. The vet says he will need a high fiber diet while I have read many of you with...
