Thanks, further reading revealed that Panacur is not approved for use in cats by the FDA but is considered safe to do so by the manufacturer. There are also reports of roundworm resistance to Panacur which you may have run into. But don't forget the lifecycle of the worm. Drugs only kill...
I had a litter of feral kittens foisted on me to foster. They of course turned out to have worms which leads me to a specific and general question:
The vet prescribed strongid for the hookworms. The shelter was out but said that other groups use Panacur. I called the vet to get dosing info...
The good news is I finally adopted out one of my reformed ferals :-)
The bad is that he's hiding under the bed at his new home :-(
This is a totally sweet, loving kitty. My guess is that being moved to a strange environment combined with being without any of his playmates (or any other cats)...
Yes you don't have money to pay for a vet. Yes, most no-kill shelters are full but, you are not looking to place him there. However, you do have something, hopefully, that would be of immense benefit to them - your time. They need people to help out inside: cleaning cages, providing...
Where's the discussion on this? This item needs to generate as much heat as 'feral colony in danger of extermination' topics do!
Why? An official government sanctioned TNR program is pure GOLD. Throwing our encouragement & support behind something like this is worth the equivalant of trying...
What caught my eye was comments about your vet. Warning you to not bring in ferals, requiring you to sedate a cat and chasing them with nets?!
My vet has of course cautioned me about the potential danger to my cats from ferals I bring in but he is more than willing to work with me (and...
If he's that friendly perhaps he could be resocialized and adopted out rather than TNR'd. If you can't do it, is there a shelter around where they would have foster homes?
It's great you're looking out for this lucky kitty.
p.s. - not putting out food, or only a little, the day before will...
Someone who can't be trusted in general can't be trusted when she says she'd back out. My first thought was bounty hunter for research labs. Your cats may be wire-trap proof but there are drop-traps, wooden traps, drugged food, tranquilizer guns, etc.
Not to sow paranoia but do keep an eye out.
Pamela,
FeLV is a very different illness from FIV. It is much more communicable - http://web.vet.cornell.edu/public/fhc/felv.html
However, like FIV, a single positve test performed at the vet's doesn't mean a cat will develop the disease. Which does create a delimna for testing feral cats...
I'm so sorry about Giles. I was really rootin for you two.
Seems TNR1 beat me while I was gathering my links but here they are anyway:
http://web.vet.cornell.edu/Public/FHC/fiv.html - good q/a format

Besides all the above,
I.
Some tests detect antibodies to any coronavirus. Not all coronavirii cause FIP. Having antibodies, even to the correct virus, does not mean a cat will get FIP. Not having antibodies does not mean a cat doesn't have FIP. There are many good articles, just do a...
Roscoe was one of a set of rhree feral kittens I got from a shelter to foster. He was very withdrawn from people but was well bonded with his litter mates. Whenever I was in the room he would cower in the litter box.
Due to them coming to me with 'Feline Distemper' (see previous post for...
If you can't get a larger trap - since he does go in yours, you can tie a long string to the bar that comes off the pressure pad and manually trigger it when he is in.
I really, really tried biting my tongue but my activist blood just wouldn't let me take a pass on this contradiction. Poor Broken-tail could have gone to a no-kill shelter or as a last resort to one of the sanctuaries that take non-adoptable rejects.
Take a look at amazon.com's Linare PC starting at $199. I believe Walmart sells something similar. While not state of the art gaming systems they will more than handle what you are doing. They save some money by using with a free operating system,Linux, which if you don't like you can just...
My original plan had been to keep V8 and adopt out the other 2. I liked V8 from the first moment. Whereas the other 2 were another set of cute kittens, V8 had a rough edge about him. He was the sickest - had a very severe case of conjuctivitus and almost lost an eye and, to put it...
Right after passed on I went back to the rescue shelter. They just happened to have 3 feral kittens that were scheduled to be released the next day. The kitties were sick with runny eyes and a URI but there was no room to keep them until they were well. Being the soft touch I am, I agreed to...
