I use non clumping clay litter for my kitten.  I scoop it out once a day (twice if she makes a real stinky one!) I put it in a plastic bag, and then outside in the trash. Once a week I empty out the whole litter box and wash it out before putting fresh litter 

Before adopting my kitten, I had really high hopes for toilet training her. But I've done more research about it, and in the end I think it's just better to stick to the litter box for the sake of health and safety for my baby (as GoldenKitty45 stated)
