We use tooth diet (or T/D) by Hill's. Our cat eats the up like treats and our vet always tells us that she has really good teeth and gums for a cat of her age.
Our cat is purely an indoors cat, but she does get boarded from time to time so there is the potential to interact with other cats. Plus most boarding places require annual shots. There are some shots that need to be done annually and some that need to be done every three years.
As a cat gets...
On that note, one more thing to be mindful of - whether or not your cat can pick up the virus, your roommate could transfer the virus to your cat and then to you.
MyPetED is available for ipad, ipod touch and iphone. I don't know about the Android. You can get it at the app store here:

They also seem to have a free online account version here:

I quite like MyPedED as I mentioned above. It's pretty simple and allows you to track vet appointments and results. There is also a searchable database of health articles as well.
+1 with the water recommendation. If you are feeding wet food, mix in some extra water with it.
Another recommendation is something like tonic lax. Not sure where it is available (I'm in Canada). Tonic lax is used for hairball control, but it also has laxative properties. There are other...
Apologies if this has already been discussed in another thread, but I couldn't find one.
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for ipad or iphone apps for tracking your cat's health. I currently use MyPetEd which was developed by the University of Guelph. I like it, but I was...
Also, if you can't get your cat to take her medication for hyperthyroidism, I'd highly recommend considering the radiation treatment. It's definitely an expensive treatment, but in the long run you'll save over the cost of buying methimazole/tapizole. Plus you don't have to pill your cat every day.
With our cat, pill pockets worked for a while until she caught on. After that, she'd just eat the pocket and spit out the pill whole.
We were eventually able to get her to take her tapizole in liquid form by mixing it in with a little bit of tuna juice. The liquid version comes in tuna flavour...
Tooth problems are common causes of bad breath. But bad breath can also be a sign of liver problems, so if it is persistent and really, really bad, I'd recommend getting it checked out by a vet.
The other name I have heard for tortoiseshell cats with tabby in them (aside from torbie) is calabie. I don't know if that's officially recognized or not though.
Hello - just joined the forum.
Our cat had hyperthyroidism a couple of years ago and we had the iodine treatment done. Everything seemed to be working out ok. We did a number of follow-up T4 tests and her T4 seemed to stay in the range of 40-44 nmol/L (Note: our vet reports T4 in terms of...
