    Hairballs!

That makes sense. While we're talking about red flags (just in case anyone else is reading!), I learned something similar after losing our first cat as well: rapid breathing, a constant dry nose, and increased lethargy can be signs of FIP and are always cause for a vet visit.

    Hairballs!

Oh, wow. Thank you for sharing and I will, of course, keep an eye out. Were there other symptoms like not eating or tiredness that you noticed as well?

    Hairballs!

Thank you all so much for your help! Franksmom, he is eating/drinking/acting normally otherwise. Since the hacking has only been happening for a week or two (and rarely), I got him some Laxatone to see if that helps. If he keeps coughing, I'll take him to the vet to check for asthma.

    Hairballs!

Hello! New cat owner here, and I hope somebody can put my mind at ease! My DSH cat has (I think) been trying to hack up hairballs lately... He has short fits of high-pitched coughing and deeper hacking sounds, during which his stomach muscles contract. My partner says it's hairballs, and that...

    L-Lysine questions please.....

My vet recommended 1000 mg daily as a maintenance dose. That's what it says on the tub the medication comes in as a recommended dose, as well. He still has flare-ups with that, so during the start of one we'll give him 1500 and it seems to help somewhat.

Did I Mess Up Revolution Application?

Thank you all for your responses! I felt like such a dummy. He's an indoor cat, but he dashes into the yard to roll around whenever possible, so I wanted to make sure!

Did I Mess Up Revolution Application?

I applied my cat's Revolution as I'm supposed to, on his skin at the back of his neck. Then, without thinking, I immediately gave him a "foam bath:" no water involved, just one of those where you massage a foam into his fur briefly and let it dry. I didn't touch the application site, but...

What to do about Natura recall??

My eight-month-old kitten has been having stomach upset problems with his Purina ONE dry food/IAMS wet food combination. So yesterday, we started him on California Natural wet and dry food... And found out that the bag we've been feeding him has been recalled for salmonella!!! Since we were...

    Good Wet Food?

I had been feeding my kitten Iam's Proactive wet food, but had been considering switching to Nutro Healthy Choice since it's not that much more expensive and seems to have less by-products. But I've seen a lot of talk about previous recalls and health issues... Does anyone know whether they're...

Is my cat having trouble swallowing?

Our 7-month-old kitten started doing something odd two days ago. After lapping up water, he'll extend his neck and make repeated swallowing motions–often comes with a "clicking" sound. No gagging, regurgitating, or other symptoms as far as I can tell. He seems to swallow food (wet and dry) just...

    Cleaning up after FIP

Isulz, I am so sorry to hear about your cat's health trouble. I will send out some prayers that it is not FIP... is he having trouble breathing? That, besides lethargy and fever, was our first sign that our kitten, Bowski, was seriously ill. She had the wet form of FIP, but I have read that...

    Cleaning up after FIP

I'm glad to find this thread... I have heard everything from waiting six months (the internet) to waiting a couple weeks (my vet) to FIP not being contagious at all, only the more harmless virus that it mutates from (a rescue worker). Can ANYONE give me some insight on this? I lost my...

How do I know my kitten's tapeworm medicine worked?

Yep, we treated kitten with Revolution yesterday, even though she doesn't have any current signs of fleas. I'm not sure whether I should ask for her to be examined for worms/fleas again, or just assume they worked? If only animals could talk!

How do I know my kitten's tapeworm medicine worked?

I found evidence of tapeworms in my five-month-old kitten yesterday and immediately took her to the vet, where she was tested (positive for tapeworms and nothing else) and given a one-dose treatment (it was a pill, I think Drontal?) to get rid of them. I was told she'd likely pass the worms in...
