Sorry to drag up this old thread, but I think my new holistic vet (thanks, LDG, for the suggestion to try holisitic!) finally figured out what was wrong with my 2 girls, and I really wanted to share in the hopes that someone else will be helped.
One word: Bartonella.
Aka Cat Scratch Fever...
I truly hope it's just the brewers rice.
If it is, how long do you think it should be before I see some change? I've got them on the Fancy Feast classics, which have no grains, and am giving them each one Proviable probiotic a day. I started this yesterday and they each just had puddle poop. ...
Thanks, guys. On the advice of LDG and others, I'm taking out everything with brewers rice in their diet. Hopefully that will help resolve the issues they're having; they're perfectly normal apart from the itchiness and the diarrhea!
I've bought some classic Fancy Feast and some Blue Buffalo...
I'm worrying myself to death over this; I feel sick.
I can't believe that I'm more than likely the cause of this terrible upset!
I'm going to stop tonight and get some regular Friskies (they used to eat it years ago with no problem), Blue Buffalo stuff (that they ate for awhile with no...
It's so frustrating and devastating! I hate seeing them suffer like this and when they have accidents on the carpet, it stresses my boyfriend out (it's his house).
When I moved out of my parents' house about 5 years ago, my cats adjusted well to the move and ate regular canned Friskies pate...
Yup. That's what I'll try over tonight/ this weekend. This morning, I read through the canned ingredients and found that the non-pate chicken chunks variety of the special diet doesn't have the rice in it, so that's what I'll give them until I can stop at the store on the way home.
Might the...
Update 2: Unfortunately, my happy cat poops didn't last.
Po had an accident last night and, this morning, Seffie is back to it too.
Maybe I should switch them back to their old wet food? I was giving them some Blue Buffalo and trying to wean them off the yellow plastic Meow Mix cans when the...
I thought all was good when I woke up to two cat boxes with almost normal poops, but my Po just had an accident on the carpet. I saw her squatting and went to get paper towels and she was having a mushy poop right on the carpet. First one out of the box since this whole diarrhea debacle started...
Update: Two doses of probiotics - one Proviable sprinkle capsule per cat, per day - and my two little fuzzy faces have pooped mostly normal! I'm ecstatic and so is everyone else b/c they don't have to hear about my cats' poops now.
...and that vet wanted to jump directly onto steroids... GRRR...
Hi! My Seffie and Po are in their second week of diarrhea. They're happy and playful, drinking plenty and the vet has mostly ruled out bugs/parasites. They finished a 5-day course of flagyl just in case and are still being given Endosorb with little difference. I've taken up the Purina One...
I bought the Friskies Special Diet for urinary health and they took right to it, no problems whatsoever. It is the pate kind and they also have a chicken chunks with gravy kind with which I like to vary the flavors. I saw that it was on the 'ok' list for the ibdkitties.net site, too, which...
Ok...my two cats and I have had a really bad time since October. They both got respiratory infections then. Then one of them got a UTI...and then ate a string (and puked it up just fine a few days later). Then the other one got a UTI and the vet tech suggested I switch them both over to Purina...
They really don't eat a lot of dry food; I put a small amount in a forage ball during the day and a small amount out in a bowl at night so they don't forage me awake.
Even the vet didn't think the food was the problem because we'd switched about a whole month before this came on.
I'm going to...
Well, I was instructed to change their diet back in at thestart of December after both of them had a urinary tract infection, one right after the other. I had them on blue buffalo wet and nature's recipe dry food, but was told to try purina special diet dry and also switched to friskies special...
Ok. Both my cats started having diarrhea about the same time last week. Tried pumpkin and plain yogurt with a little improvement in my Po, but none in my Seffie.
I took them both to the vet this morning. I was only able to collect a fresh stool sample from Po cat, but not Seffie. They did a...
I'm having the same issue with the cat urine odor smell. After three months of seemingly constant cat issues, our latest problem has been a UTI for my younger cat, who is one of the ones who associates the pain with the box and goes on the floor.
Yet another vet visit and a diet change and the...
Thanks for the kind words and vibes. I've got Nature's Miracle stinking up the closed off litter room and three litterboxes going down my hallway, like a cat public restroom. My Po has been using the box in the guest bathroom, which is where I shut her into for the first two days of her problem...
One of the shots was an antibiotic and the other was an anti-inflammatory. I just called them and they said it definitely wasn't metacam; it was a derivative of dexi-something or other.
She's currently on a five day course of amoxicillin and both vets (the ER and her regular vet) didn't think...
Wait...I just realized something. I was giving my Seffie up to a 1000 mg a day of Lysine for her virus and then she got a UTI. When Po was recovering, I did the same and now she's got one.
Is this a coincidence? Or could there be a correlation between the Lysine and UTIs?
