Going out of town...board Carl or leave him home?

I have a friend whose cat goes for backpack strolls in Central Park. That said, some cats do great going to a new place, meeting other cats, etc. Other cats are much more habit-reliant. For this past holiday, I was out of town for two long weekends in a row. The first weekend was fine. The...

    Kitten "Chirping" when excited?

My cats chirp at me when I sneeze.

    Feline Genetics

I have a question about the genetic testing. I've seen offers pop up often for it lately (I know UC Davis has a reasonably priced program) but from what I can tell, the test results will not conclusively establish breeds (e.g. my grandma is Scottish, my grandpa is English, etc.) The real answer...

    Switched to grain free

In response to the problem of stale food, the food can actually go bad if it sits out too long. I keep mine in a big plastic Sterilite tub with a flap top, basically a giant cereal keeper. This prevents me from overfeeding when trying to dump from a giant bulk bag (I keep a scooper in the tub)...

    Switched to grain free

My cats had the same problem. The key is slow, sloooooow transition. As in, several months of feeding a mix of half grain-free food to eventually just the grain-free. Now they poop like champs!

    "Meaty" grain-free wet food

I guess every cat's different, but feeding 4 times a day seems like a lot of food. Maybe try cutting down the feeding times and they'll be hungrier/less picky? My cats get dry food in the morning and wet food at dinner.

    So Much for Going Grain-Free

I tend to swamp my corn on the cob in butter and salt, so maybe that's why kitty liked it? I had a cat that was a huge salt junky... she was crazy for Lays plain potato chips, we pretty much couldn't eat them around her.

    What Breed is My Cat?

The breeders have made their point clear on the moggie/domestic label... while I understand the unlikliness of a pedigree in the background, Kitty's genes come from somewhere! We are just trying to have a good time and chat about what our cats look like; we're not going to try to pass off our...

    What Breed is My Cat?

I realize she's a domestic regardless (she was found without parents) I guessed the Siberian lineage because of her large size, (she's tall enough to reach a countertop and weighs about 13.5 lbs at 1.5 years); her multilayered coat and (hooray!) lack of dander; and a Siberian breeder just a few...

    Water fountains

I find that my cats are more concerned with the temperature of the water rather than the source. At first, I thought Mowzers just wanted to be like me, since she was always sticking her head in my pint glass. But when I'd leave a pint glass of water by her food dish, she wasn't interested. Turns...

Is this Siberian cat? (please i really need to know )?

Here's Boots, all grown up! I guess for my purposes, it really doesn't matter what their lineage is other than my own curiosity. Boots was $40, so for all I care, her mother could have been a scrappy barn cat, she still turned out to be a great and gorgeous kitty. But if you're considering a...
