So sorry to hear this. Please don't give up on your kitty, animals (like people) can heal with the right nutrition and tools.
Whether it's a BB wound or something else, your cat is likely feeling stressed, and there might be infection. So, I'd keep him somewhere quiet and give him lots of love...
Sadly, NZ factory farms are likely just as horrendous as those in bigger countries, but perhaps ours are just smaller.
They inject chickens with antobiotics here, keep them locked up in inhumane, unsanitary, cramped conditions, cut off their beaks when they are babies, etc.
Sheep and cows on...
Thanks so much everyone for your help and input. I shall definitely be doing some homework on this.
Dr Pierson's site is great! I have previously only looked at her info on nutrition. The info on vaccines will no doubt be interesting.
Here's the link to the US vet medical assoc. advice:

There are no references to the research but this is stated:
"Recent research has provided compelling evidence to suggest that panleukopenia/rhinotracheitis/calicivirus vaccines provide adequate...
^ That's awful! So sad.
I had a look at the guidelines Willowy mentioned, and they basically said - if I recall correctly - that your cat should regularly be boosted for feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia, and for FIV and leaukemia too.
I think I shall do more research and...
Hey, thanks so much for the info.
Below are the details on what Puddy was given last November (the first time we took her to the vet). She is an adopted stray, so we have no way of knowing what shots she might have been given as a kitten. For that reason, we asked the vet to give her...
I guess the title of my post sums up my question.
I'd like to hear other cat lover's views on whether they think the annual flu shot is really necessary.
My cat (adopted stray) had all her cat aids and cat leukemia (? I think that's what the shots were for) shots a year ago, and a flu shot...
I should start by saying my kitty is fairly good about taking pills.
Here's what I do.
If Puddy seems like she is going to be squirmy (sometimes she is, sometimes she isn't), I wrap her completely in the familiar blanky that we keep on our couch. Obviously, I leave her head poking out : )...
Thanks AC : )
Well, it turned out that just as we decided Puddy needed to see the vet (this was on a Saturday afternoon), she started to come right.
On Sunday she was much more chipper, and by Monday she was back to meowing for her cookies (dry food), eating all her daily food, and going...
Thouhgt I would add my 2c to this topic.
I have been feeding my young female (exact age unknown as she was a stray, but we think she is about 2-3 years old) raw, free range, hormone-free chicken breast 1-2 times a week for about 10 months now. I buy this meat fresh from a butcher, never from a...
You are so right about the issue of stress weakening the immune system. I am aware of this being a problem in humans but it hadn't even occurred to me that it's the same for cats/animals....d'oh!
Thanks for your helpful post. To the vet we go
Hi everyone,
My cat Puddy (rhymes with 'hoodie'), while still eating, has suddenly shown a decrease in appetite over the past two weeks. It started after she had spent about 8 days in a cattery.
She is still eating but she never seems to finish a meal anymore, doesn't 'ask' for food like she...
PS. Just a quick thought....if it was me leaving my cat in an apartment with no outdoor access for the cat, I'd leave her cat cage/carrier handy and show it to the person who has agreed to feed her, so that they can attempt a rescue in the event of a building fire.
Hi there,
I would also advise leaving your cat at home for the weekend and having a trusted person come and feed her (and hopefully pet her : ). My gut feeling is that a weekend trip would only stress your kitty. I think she will be much happier staying in the apartment, which must now be...
Thanks for your input krazy kat. Yeah, I guess if her new home is caring and cosy and her needs are being met, she will be ok.
Would be happy to hear more thoughts on this from anyone else, especially anyone who has had a long-ish period of being separated from their cat.
I should add that I...
Hello all,
This is my first post here. I'm looking for some advice...allow me to offer some background info first.
I have always loved animals and was lucky to have many, many pets as a child (grew up in the country). However, my life had been (sadly) pet-less the last few years because my...
