Baycox and Albon - Coccidia Kittens

I just wanted to chime in about treating coccidia. I've been fostering since 2007 and have had many kittens suffering from it. A few years ago one of the vets in town prescribed Baycox and sold a bottle of it to our local HS. They recommend giving a one time dose to kittens to prevent...

    Deaf kitten?

They are still a bit young but that would def work in another week or two. I've tried making high pitched noises but I think they are too young to track sound well. Their ears are still fairly flat :)

    Deaf kitten?

My latest foster cat had 6 kittens two weeks ago. She was a stray living on the street. She is caliby with medium fur, she looks a bit exotic. One of her kittens was completely white when born. I know most white kittens are born white with a few coloured hairs on the forehead that eventually...

Need advice for some feral kittens

Wonderful video! Thank you :) I spoke to a friend of mine today who fosters kittens for a feral colony. She said to buy a cat toy that "dances". I haven't had a chance to go find one but when I used the fishing pole toy, it was amazing to watch their body language. You could see them relax...

Need advice for some feral kittens

Today I brought home four feral kittens that were at the humane society. I"ve been a foster home since 2007 but have only had a few true "feral" cats/kittens. I know these were outdoors with a mother. They are about 7-8 weeks old. (harder to tell as they are very fluffy) An older gentleman had...

    Pregnant foster with upper respiratory

Good news! Felt movement earlier today :) I went and bought a humidifier for the bathroom as her bed is in the shower lol. She had a coughing fit today, chokey and hoarse the poor thing. I wish the vet put her on stronger medication. He has her on 1/2 pill of Amoxicillin twice a day. ( the blue...

    The waiting game

Glad she pulled through! It would have been tough for her to nurse after surgery. Poor wee soul.

    Pregnant foster with upper respiratory

Thanks for your replies. :) If it was a bowel obstruction there is no way she would eating +++ and keeping it down. (I'm a nurse) She has both peed and pood but stool was loose. She seems happy and content except for her nasal congestion. She is actually in my spare bathrrom so I can try running...

    The waiting game

12 hours is way to long to push. If she does manage to get this one out, be prepared, it may not survive. If she doesn't get it out, all of them could die. I would take her to your local humane society. You will have to sign her over but you'll be saving her life. Good luck and keep us posted...

    Pregnant foster with upper respiratory

I picked up a new foster cat today. I was told she was ready to give birth any day. She saw vet this morning and was given amoxicillin for upper respiratory. She is congested, has green/yellow nasal discharge with a bit of blood. Her one eye is sore. She seems to be short of breath at times. She...

    Fading Kitten need advice

An update! So, when I went in to check him first thing in morning he had a good night and no poops which I was happy about because he'd been having some loose stools the day before. He seemed eager to eat his wet food and nibbled on his kibble as well. I called the shelter (he is a foster...

    Fading Kitten need advice

I spoke to shelter manager and apparently, he did not see vet and has not had a fecal done. He has had Revolution, Strongid and he's been treated for Coccidia.  We are going to try and get him in to vet  tomorrow and I'll bring a stool sample with me. I am hoping he will try something else like...

    Fading Kitten need advice

He has seen a vet and been treated for coccidia. No, he is not showing any signs of upper. I do not think he has had blood work done and I'm pretty sure the shelter will not go to that "extreme". He had stools that were consistant with Coccidia which is why he was treated and it did seem to...

    Fading Kitten need advice

Yesterday, I brought home an 11 week old kitten. He was brought to shelter as a singleton at 5 weeks of age. He was fostered til he was 8 or 9weeks and then brought to shelter. After his first set of vaccines he started to deteriorate. When I picked him up he weighed 500g. He looks like an 8...

Just wondering how long after you see babies moving will she have them :-)

I have only read the last few pages, but it sounds like you were doing your very best for these kittens. I think sarthur2 was a bit harsh considering you have clearly been trying very hard to do right by them. There is "fading kitten syndrome" and sometimes a whole litter will die. I am...

    How old is she /he?

I would say she is between 3 and four weeks. Like the others said, she could try some wetfood just to get use to the taste. I usually will very gently put a pea size bit in my finger and run it along the roof of the mouth. Biting and chewing is foreign to them. (they think suckling is the only...

Can a cat have fraternal twins?

My foster cat is giving birth right now. She had her first kitten, then her second. I watched her clean the second one off. Then she turned around in the box. I peered over her and saw a third kitten laying there still slimy and not moving. Mom was busy with second one still who was close to...
