Adoted Rescue Cat is Hiding. Help!

I think you're doing everything perfectly! I would say to just keep doing what you're doing, and if he hasn't stopped hiding after two+ weeks then maybe start to get a little worried. I've had new cats -- or old cats in a new apartment -- take days or weeks to stop hiding. Also, a little noise...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

Well, I did two things: First I got Nutri-Cal for Cats High Calorie Dietary Supplement and Wysong PDG Food Supplement. They should get here on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, and I'm eager to try them out. I'm going to taste-test them with my three guys first, and then if they all like...

kitties very interested in dogs raw food

I feed in the bathtub (mostly wet, but one cat makes a huge mess because he prefers to eat off his paw ) and it's super easy to clean. You can see the surface really well to make sure you get every bit of it. And every time you shower it cleans it again.

    Hurricane!

KTLynn, thank you so much for the advice. Unfortunately I don't see any way to provide shelter for them at this time because they are on someone else's private property, in an open, public area (that's highly trafficked). The space under the porch is enclosed, so they will at least be sheltered...

    Cat carrier issues

I think it definitely would provide some protection. The only thing it couldn't help with would be a situation where the car was accordioned and the whole carrier got crushed. But I think in most situations the cat would be okay (flipping, getting flung about in the car), and a carrier addresses...

The whole kitty clan... including 4 ferals

That's great! It's sounds like they are quite tame. I suppose their impending neutering will make the kittens much less likely to leave when they're older, also. Good luck with everything!

    Cat carrier issues

Maybe you could look into those carriers that are used in rescue that are completely closed off in plastic, with one clear side for viewing? They look like this. (I don't know if that's an especially good price or anything.) I know a lot of people really like that style of carrier, especially...

    Hurricane!

I'm really worried about my ferals, too. I'm not in a super low or coastal area so most of them should be fine, but one just had a litter of kittens that are living under a porch. When the rain is coming down in sheets it doesn't matter whether you're somewhere low -- the ground just can't...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

I know what you mean, but I suspect that we humans might be a little biased. It's not good for us, so the word carries negative connotations. But really, it's just pure animal fat, something that's in their food already. No, once a day is it. There are a lot of restaurants in the area so I think...

The whole kitty clan... including 4 ferals

What a great family of ferals! I hope they stay for good. Do you know how old the kittens are, and are they getting social at all? I am feeding one feral kitten who looks the same age as those two or slightly younger, and I'm hoping to trap him soon for neutering and then keep him a little...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

I used a lot of fish oil this morning, which I assume is pretty high calorie. I'm going to try egg yolks in coming days, as well. Two of my three will eat them but not the third, so I was thinking that I would put some yolks (mixed with a little bit of canned) in a separate dish for the ferals...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

Regarding the use of kitten food, the foods I'm giving them are mostly all-life-stages (though one I've been giving them is Evolve's kitten turkey formula), and their brands don't make a special kitten food. I think they are all generally higher in calories than the brands that make different...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

You're right about the dry, but I've definitely seen them wolf down more than that of wet, too. I used those amounts because that's what my guys eat for meals, but you're right, it might not be an accurate comparison. That's actually exactly what I'm doing right now. Do you think I should nix...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

This is a concern... I suppose I was hoping that if I kept the amount really low it would be okay. My thought was that at most I would add a tablespoon of lard (115 calories) to one can of wet food and about 1.5 cups of dry, plus water, and mix the whole thing up. What do you think of that? I'm...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

These are feral cats, they don't know about things like shaking bags. (Although, on a side note, I have been considering using some kind of noise as a food marker so they could learn to associate that sound with me arriving to feed them. That way, if I came at a different time I could still...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

I can't leave any food or water out because it's wide-open public property. Right now I primarily feed a mix of dry and wet, and then when a lot of cats show up I also add separate bowls of dry and wet to the area. The cats universally prefer the wet food, and eat more of it in a sitting. I also...

    Feeding lard to skinny ferals?

I recently began feeding a group of feral cats living in town, and many of them are very, very thin -- and pregnant or nursing. I'm talking with a couple local groups that rent out traps and s/n ferals, but in the meantime I'd really like to fatten these girls up. I'm only able to feed them...

Cheapest Bulk Wellness 12.5 oz Cases

Sometimes petfooddirect.com has okay prices. The key is that they always have coupons for 15% off (sometimes 20% off) which makes up for shipping if you buy enough. Like right now, the wellness 12/12.5-oz cans are $28.99, and if you get more than three cases the discount more than covers the...

    Please help me :(

Good luck with the surgery! I think will be fine to leave him alone after (but I'm not an expert). I also think that if money is really tight, neutering is the priority and not getting him a carrier that probably won't be used again for another year. I think a sturdy box with holes cut in it...

    Food brand and Finances!

For thrifty I second the votes for Taste of the Wild and Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul. I don't know whether they have those at the chain pet stores. You may have to find a smaller store. Or get them online. And to what seess said, it's not that brand is important in and of itself, it's...
