Aggressive PTSD or trauma memory response

Thanks, the ear thing is an interesting idea. We will look into that. I didn't mention it in the last reply, but we did talk to the people we adopted him from about his background when we got him. He was born in a barn, and the farmer (who apparently regularly had kittens be born in his barn)...

Aggressive PTSD or trauma memory response

We adopted him at about 10 weeks old, and at the time he seemed very well-adjusted, social, not fearful. He's now 11, and he's been with us that whole time with nothing bad happening to him. We need to talk to the vet again. We did discuss it with them early on, but we (including the vet) had...

Aggressive PTSD or trauma memory response

Hi everyone. I apologize for the length of this post, but it's a complex and difficult situation... Our 11 year old cat has, within the last 6 months, picked up a very troubling and frustrating new behavior, and I'm wondering if any of you have advice on how we can address this. He's been...

#12 is my wonderful little guy Toby. Glad other people think he's cute too

Photo Contest Entry Thread: September - Cats & Computers

Toby. You might notice the faint volume icon on the screen. His little hiney was holding down the volume-up button, making the computer make a progressively louder "click, click, click" sound. He was, of course, completely puzzled about what that strange sound was. It was pretty funny.

    Always helpful

Hehe, I always think the black on his paw makes it look like he stepped on a Sharpie or something. You can see just enough pink through that it looks like it's colored with a black marker.

    Always helpful

I was trying to take a picture of some flooring samples to get opinions online. Toby, of course, always has to help. I'm not sure how much assistance he really was. BTW, if you'd like to offer your opinion on the floors, that picture is here (warning: big picture).

Toby loves watching the birds out the window of his room. He's a lot bigger than this now!

    High quality cat beds

Thanks all! cococat, we actually got one of our other cat beds at a dog show (one of these). I emailed the people who made that bed, but they don't make anything like what we're looking for. I'll see if there's a cat show coming up soon. Thanks for the idea!

    Silly video (making muffins)

Mystik Spiral, surely you're not suggesting he's spoiled? Does this cat, laying in his hammock in the sun, look spoiled to you?

    Silly video (making muffins)

I was bored the other day, so I threw together a really quick and silly video of our cat Toby "making muffins" (one of his favorite activities). I have no idea why we call it "making muffins," since you don't knead muffins, but that's beside the point

    High quality cat beds

What are your favorite sources for really good quality cat beds? We got this bed for our kitty at Petco when we adopted him a couple of months ago: As you can probably tell, he loves it. It's nice and soft, and he can curl up in it. Unfortunately, it's also very poorly made. It's constantly...

    Scale for your cats?

Thanks all. I went ahead and ordered a baby scale.

    Scale for your cats?

Aha! Thank you! Hilarious that a "pet scale" is way more expensive than a "baby scale" even though they're basically the same thing. Of course, if I order that, Amazon will be recommending me other baby stuff for the next three years

    Scale for your cats?

LOL, the Post Office! That's pretty funny. Our vet is actually closer than the PO, and I'm pretty sure they'd let us just come in and weigh if we wanted (they're really great), but I figured an at home solution would be nice. We do have a digital scale and do the with/without weight thing. I...

    Scale for your cats?

Oh, wait, here we go. Only $439! Suddenly, $80 isn't sounding so bad :-p http://www.1800scales.com/PS5A-2KD-animal.html Why can I get a nice bathroom scale for well under $50, but a little kitty scale is twice the price or more???

    Scale for your cats?

Do any of you have a scale for weighing your cats? We'd like to be able to monitor our cat's weight without having to take him in to the vet. We can weigh him on our bathroom scale, but it doesn't offer very much precision, and I'm not totally convinced of its accuracy. Foster & Smith has a...

    Butt In The Face

In our bed, we call getting the kitty's face "getting the good end." If one person gets the good end, the other person must be getting the butt!

Does your cat tell you when it's bed time?

I'm a bit late to the party here, but what the heck? My wife and I usually go to bed at very different times (she much earlier than I). Our wonderful former cat Harvey would stay up with me, sitting right next to me on the couch, but if it started getting too late he'd start giving me dirty...

Icky sticky stool -- switching foods

Just wanted to follow up on this. We've been feeding him Orijen for about two weeks. We didn't change anything else. The poop situation is MUCH better. We've had no messy/gooey stools, and it also happens to be less smelly. Yay!
