What mschauer said. I still keep some Feline Future around just in case because the supplements are simple and convenient. $10 worth of store bought chicken added to $25 worth of supplements gives you 1 month worth of food for about a buck a day.

Don't over-think it and think in bulk.
I usually get 3 whole chickens from Costco (total 10 - 11 lbs.). I grind one chicken with the bone and the cumulative gizzards, de-bone and cut up the other two into small chunks. Into a big bowl I add 2 teaspoons of liver powder, 2 egg yolks and 2...
So they can grind the bones (plus there's a long term cost saving) - cats need the calcium and unfortunately most of the food meat you can buy, the bones are a bit too big for the cat to eat on their own. And if you're going to grind the bones, grind the meat for convenience.
