Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

Thanks. Well, stage one is now complete - I just had to break up a fight between William and the black cat in the crawlspace under the house. Afterwards, I saw the black cat going up toward the back of our yard, so I took the opportunity to block off all the holes leading into the space. I'll...

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

One quick question about this trap (regular Havahart 1079): Looking at it more closely, it really seems like when the door slams shut, it could trap someone's tail. I mean, it's right in the place where the tail will be when the animal enters the trap and steps on the plate. Does this ever happen?

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

This fellow that came in our house wasn't the black cat that William fought with - it was a different one, and I think I've seen the black cat fighting him too (and chasing him clear across the street, poor thing). Actually, I think this may also be the cat that William encountered the very...

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

I just ordered the 1079 Havahart model I linked to above. With Amazon Prime one day shipping ($3.99) it should be here tomorrow. I looked at the two door ones, but they looked very long. The one we got previously from the rental place was one door, and it seemed to work just fine. We don't...

Great, thanks - just doing a sanity check.

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

Quick question for anybody living in the USA: Which live trap would you recommend for cat-size animals? I see that Amazon seems to be flooded with traps by Havahart, and as usual the reviews are very mixed, with some people saying it's great, and some saying it's trash that breaks after the...

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

Thanks again for the tips. I mentioned the appointment simply because that's what the cat lady who deals with strays told me. I guess she deals with so many that she has to have a routine with her vet. I use a different one, I'll give them a call and see how they feel about me just showing up...

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

Thanks for the advice. I agree, it would probably be good to try to catch the cat and get him neutered (if applicable). If it means he might not fight with the other cats in the neighborhood quite as much, then that would only be a good thing - one of my current fears is that since he fights...

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

Yes, I'm very familiar with this advice, but it is completely unrealistic given our cats. You have to understand that they were adopted as adult strays, directly from the street. We have tried keeping them indoors before. Either they are able to go outside, or else they go crazy (and drive me...

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

I have no idea if he's neutered or not. I've spoken today with one of the local ladies who is involved with spaying and neutering programs, and she gave us some good advice (first, close off the under house access, then perhaps trap him to neuter and even see if anyone wants a mouser or barn cat...

Help needed with aggressive feral living under our house

Hi, we have two adopted (formerly stray) cats, a male and female. The male is young and quite territorial - a scrapper, but very sweet with us. We just recently (March) moved to a new rental house here in Fortuna, CA. Over the last few months I've noticed a large long haired black cat in the...

Trouble between existing cat and new cat - help!

Quick question regarding this website - I read the FAQ, and it talks about being able to upload pic attachments for posts, and photo albums on your profile. However those do not seem to be enabled for me. I wrote to the webmaster address, but no reply yet so I don't know if it's a "black hole"...

Trouble between existing cat and new cat - help!

Yes, that would make sense. We've been trying to pay attention to Headbutt when she lets us... but she is very much "her own cat" and doesn't tolerate too much attention at the best of times. I have noticed, however that she is much more affectionate even now when William is not in the house...

Trouble between existing cat and new cat - help!

Thanks for the encouragement! Here's another example of their conflicted relationship: We have a flexible bug screen on our back door (the Bug Off Screen, works pretty well). Headbutt was inside, and William came up outside. They touched noses for maybe 10 seconds through the mesh, without any...

Trouble between existing cat and new cat - help!

Hi all, We adopted our cat Headbutt (female) back in 2005. I should say, she basically adopted us, by hanging around our house when we were living in Corvallis. She is probably somewhere around 7 or 8 years old by now. She seems to be very happy being an "only cat", not having displayed any...
