    Moving and integrating two cats

Hi- I haven't post for a while but I love this board so I'm back! I have two female cats - for ease, I'll call them C1 (4 years old) and C2 (2.5 years old). C1 we got three years ago and lived with her alone in a NY apartment apartment. C1 is definitely an alpha cat. A year after getting C1...

    Problem with Maya

You think an emergency vet visit is necessary or it could wait until tomorrow after work?

    Problem with Maya

Hey all.......the good news is that our resident cat (Maya, 2 1/2 years) and our "new" cat, Sophie (11 months), who we got about 6 weeks ago are getting along better with each other. Yesterday, we brought Sophie to the vet because she had a few coughing spells. She otherwise seems like her...

    I am Feeding Fancy Feast....

Thanks for the responses everyone! We are definitely going to look at, if not buy the Wellness tomorrow. I am just shocked how much cheaper the 12.5 oz cans are-almost 1/2 price. We feel bad that we've been underfeeding them so much. Hopefully Maya will stop waking us up at 5:30 AM I would...

    I am Feeding Fancy Feast....

My wife and I have two cats. Maya is 2 1/2 years old and is about 12 lbs. We just adopted Sophie a month ago and she was 6 1/2 lbs when we took her to the vet for a check up. Sophie is about 11 months old. We are feeding both of the Fancy Feast wet food. We feed Maya 1 1/2 3 oz. cans per...

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

So something new that's happening...... Sophie sneaks downstairs. Maya discovers her and watches her and stares at her from about four feet away. Sophie freezes and sometimes lets out a soft cry. This time, Maya walked away and layed on my AppleTV (which she always does). Sophie then jumped...

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

Hello again.... So, they keep having these standoffs....usually when Maya goes into Sophie's room. Maya is sometimes growling with the occasional and will get close to the bed in sort of a threatening manner and Sophie will quickly charge back at her. They never touch each other, but do this...

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

Thanks So, I have another update and a couple of quick questions if anyone can help. You all have been great and your advice has helped tremendously. I now leave the door between the safe room and the rest of the house open. For the most part, Sophie keeps to her safe room. Once every hour...

Urgent - meowing - please help!

I should also add, I am sorry to be unable to give you any advice except for giving your cat more time and/or attention. Hopefully someone else here can.

Urgent - meowing - please help!

I think that you adopted the cat less than a week ago. I understand that your husband may be impatient, but in my limited experience, a cat doesn't feel "home" for about a month on average, so it may just be meowing until it feels comfortable. Also, most cats just meow to communicate....some...

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

So, I was home a lot of the day and kept the door for the safe room open. Sophie remained under her bed much of the time with Maya going to the bed and growling every hour or two. A couple of times Sophie made it down stairs, but when Maya say her, she ran back upstairs. A few times, I was...

Get out of the Christmas tree!!

I put up the tree yesterday. I got a pine with needles because the branches are week and hopefully will not allow the cats to climb it. Maya was laying under it yesterday, but made no attempt to climb it......yet. Maya did bat at a couple of lower ornaments though but quickly lost interest.

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

Thanks Piikki! Last night and this morning I fed them pretty much nose to nose with the screen and it went pretty well. They both ate though Maya growl once in awhile. After their meal was done (a quiet time for Maya-she relaxes after a meal) I lifted the gate. Sophie was on top of the bed...

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

Thanks for your insight. I enjoyed reading about your experience. I took Sophie to the vet today. I took her to the bathroom and put her in the crate there.....in case she got away. She was yelping and crying. I took her in her crate downstairs and Maya was growling at her with a hiss or...

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I am sorry to ask so many questions at every step.....I just want to make sure I do this the right way. So, I did the screen again today for about 90 minutes so far. I was in the next room-less than 10 feet away cleaning, but I popped my head in every two...

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

Thanks for the suggestions I was able to rig a screen and open Sophie's door half way last night. I put treats down by the door and Maya was eating them while growling and sometimes hissing at Sophie. Sophie didn't seem to care at all and even used the litter while Maya was hissing. At some...

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

Just a further update.....Maya had dinner at the door without and growling or hissing. Good sign. Would be interested on people's thoughts regarding my post above. Thanks all.

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

I should also add that Sophie is unafraid of Maya....the shelter said she got along with all the other cats no matter whether they hissed at her or not.

Introducing a New Cat (Happening Now)

Just an update and a few questions..... Sophie, the new cat is adjusting really well. She is using the litterbox, eating, drinking and exploring the room she is in. In fact, I think she may be bored just being in one little spare bedroom....sometimes I hear noises in there and I think she is...
