Are some of us overzealous in giving advice???

I don't mind overzealous advice. I just ignore it until someone more practical comes along with some information. What I don't like is when someone posts with an opening like, "We at TCS believe...so and so." I don't think anyone (at least I hope not) speaks for the whole site. And this...

Inflamed Nipples on fixed kitty! :(

Well my cat is also odd. She is 10 mo old, spayed at 6 mos. I noticed her sucking at her bottom two nipples a few weeks after spaying. She is definitely acting like she's nursing---paws kneading, purring like crazy, sort of in a trance. Her stomach down there has been bigger ever since the...

Are your cats inside, outside, or both?

I have two indoor-only female cats, but I'm feeding a TNR cat who is strictly outdoors. I guess since I'm feeding him technically he's "mine?" If anyone wants an orange neutered 2yo male with a clipped ear, in NE Georgia, let me know. He's very friendly.

    Double Jointed Cats?

Double jointed is just a terminology for a joint that hyperextends, but in animals it usually refers to the the rear leg joints, or hocks, not the spine, but I suppose it's possible. It is usually genetic and not too uncommon in some breeds of dogs. Where two leg bones fit together, the one is...

    Advice, please (long, sorry)

Holy cow! That would scare the heck out of me. I know I'll probably get flamed for this post, but here goes anyway. The kitchen sink incident sounds to me like she either thinks that she is dominant over you, or doesn't know how to play (likely both). I would wear long pants and long...

How did your cats come to adopt you

One day I went to our basement and found four 6wk old kittens playing. This basement has a dirt floor, not livable space, but the mama (abandoned) had dug under the door and had her kittens in the drawer of an old chest we kept tools in down there. She managed to keep them hidden and quiet...

Fat cat vs. Skinny cat feeding issue

I'm sorry, I missed the fact that you leave out food. I would pick two feeding times per day (or more if you want). Put out specific portions for each cat. Put the thinner cat in the room where you can watch him the easiest. When thin cat is finished, open the door. If they're used to free...

Fat cat vs. Skinny cat feeding issue

Feed them in separate rooms. My two cats competed for food when they ate together. Vacuumed it up to keep the other one from getting some. They learned to go to their separate places in 2 days.

    Nora was spayed yesterday...

When I had my cat spayed in October the vet said that stairs were a definite No-No for a week. Of course my cat didn't listen to the vet.

Oranges (citrus in general) and cats?...

I don't know if it's bad for them or not but it sure is interesting. Every cat I've ever had, when they smell oranges, scrunch up their noses, and turn away like this is the most disgusting thing they've ever smelled. It's the one thing I can eat in peace, right in front of them.

    Question regarding Terramycin

I'll bet he is prescribing this just as a preventative against secondary infection while the virus runs its course, which can last from 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the immunity of the cat. If there was only an actual infection of the eyes, 2 weeks sounds a bit much. But my cats didn't mind...

    Neutering woes :-(

Maybe he was just meant to be an outdoor cat. Would that be possible where you live? Maybe if he stays outdoors for a while he will decide it's better inside and change.

Unexplained high fever--Terrified it might be FIV

Just like jack31, my cat was acting very lethargic. I was afraid it was due to a blockage because she had not used the litter pan in 2-3 days. I took her to the vet and she had a fever of 105. The vet said that would cause the lethargy. They did blood work and X-rays and everything was...

    my odd cat

There is at least one other cat out here whose tail goes all the time. If she's snuggled up on my lap that's the way I can tell when my cat falls asleep---the tail finally stops. Then the paw twitches start.

Weight loss when there are other cats?

If only one is overweight then you only need 2 rooms---one room for the overweight one, and one room for all the others.

Kitty on a diet - hunger causing behavioral probs

My cats act like this all the time. I think some cats are just food obsessed. My previous cat would rather play than eat. These two cats get good food---Brandon Farms, wet, 95% meat. They did this with their other food which had a lot of grain. That's why I switched. The only difference is...

    Lap cat problem?

In the room I spend most of my time I have two chairs. One is my lapcat chair and the other is my other things chair. When I sit in the lap chair they always jump up on my lap. In the other chair I don't let them. All I had to do is hold my hand open in front of their faces when I saw them...

    i need your help

How much did your cats weigh the last time you had them weighed? 320 calories daily is enough to maintain a 15 pound cat. Do you feed them any treats at all between meals?

    Teeth out not eating well

Maybe she's eating crumbs because she can pick them up with her tongue. If shes eating dry, maybe try crunching it into smaller pieces. If she's eating wet, maybe try adding broth so she can lap it up, at least for a while until she learns how to eat with her new setup. Just a thought.

    Male or a female cat??

I've observed a similar thing. Our males were friendlier toward people than the females, but did not tolerate other cats as well as the females. Not trying to generalize. Just indicating that different folks have had different experiences. So it must depend more on the individual cat.
