Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

Just as an update, Molly went back to the vet today and had the stitches taken out and -- perhaps even better -- the OK to remove the e-collar. Now she gets to move around the house instead of being locked up in the bedroom! Makes it better for all parties involved

Oh yeah, even with the cone (well, e-collar) she's still going after herself

Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

Molly's home from the vet now. She's doing very well (went right for some food) and won't sit still. The stitched area looks much better than I was expecting. She's clearly glad to be home. Thanks for all the encouraging words.

Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

Vet just called to say she's up and alert, isn't eating for them yet (which isn't that surprising I guess), and is fussy (which isn't that surprising at all). They want to keep her for a few more hours, but said I can get her later today. They'll have detailed care instructions printed out for...

Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

Vet called yesterday afternoon to say surgery went very well and Molly was waking up. They're going to see if they can get her to eat this morning, and if all is (relatively) well, they'll send her home today.

Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

The latest: I brought Molly into the specialist today, and he told me the same as the other vet and decided to due the surgery later this afternoon. He said Molly can either come home tomorrow or Saturday at the latest. I'm at least relieved to have what's necessary taking place now. The leg...

Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

Thanks MAXCAT08 (and everyone else). From everything I've heard and read, I feel like the aggressive treatment (aka amputation) is the only option here if we want to have our kitty for a while longer.

Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

Yeah, it seems like I'm getting the right advice from the vet...amputate now and the chances of getting it all are much better.

Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

Thanks for the info...I'll check out those other threads. Her name is Molly, and I've had her since she was six weeks (picked her from the litter when she was 2 days old).

Anyone have experience with a cat losing a leg?

My 12-year-old cat was just diagnosed with having a fibrosarcoma on her right hind leg (most likely vaccine-related). The recommendation from the lab and the vet is to amputate the leg (x-rays show it hasn't spread to the chest/lungs) for the best changes of survival. Has anyone been through...
