carolinalima,
I would encourage you to take advantage of the free case. Why not? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If more black stuff is found, it will only make the case against NB stronger. Don't forget to keep the can number data.
Yes, please still notify the FDA. I've read online of 2 cats that ate from a contaminated can before the owner could put it away. Both cats immediately became violently ill going at both ends all at once. Both needing ER Vet care. One is still very sick from the experience.
"Of course, we could also wonder which other companies are using that supplement source vendor - and how their in-house testing is coming along."
There is no need to wonder, by doing your own research - calling, emailing - other companies, you CAN find out such information.
Your research will...
I have to wonder why the errors were not caught by their QC department product testing BEFORE it reached the store shelves if they had been doing all of the testing that they claim to be doing on their website? Why was the error only discovered in a PAPER audit and not in their product testing?
The point I was trying to make is that just because a product is not recalled, does not mean that the supplement supplier did not make a mistake in other batches as well.
Testing of any commercial food yourself is only way to be sure what is in the food. One must never forget that a company's...
If Zinc was too high is these batches, it has not been proven that it is not too high in other batches as well. Please have the food tested before you feed it to your pets.
NUTRO Recall Threads

ANYONE who has found this mold MUST report it to the FDA. The more reports they get, the greater chance that something will be done by authorities involved - that includes asking for a recall.
I'm beginning to wonder if it is a canning problem rather than a problem with the food itself. If a can is not sealed right at the factory, the food will spoil and mold will grow in time.
The big problem we as consumers have to determine is exactly where and why the problem is happening. I...
So far mold has been found according to several posters in cans ranging from Best by dates of:
DEC 2011 to MAR 2012
Can one say that these cans were produced over a 4 month period of time?
Does anyone know the dates these batches of food were canned?
The ones who benefit (think $$) from this practice must not care anything about what they are doing to the poor animal's health who must eat this meat which truly belongs in a land-fill somewhere and not on store shelves.
Using denatured meats in pet food
US Law states that meat not fit human consumption for must be ‘denaturedâ€8482 before it is removed from the slaughterhouse and transported to a rendering facility to be made into the meat and bone meal that are used in commercial pet foods, both wet and...
It would be a good idea to get the unopened cans from the garbage and send them to the FDA for testing if you do not want them around. That would help document that there is a problem.
Thanks,
Mary
NB did get back today to the original person who posted the first pictures. NB over-nighted that person a whole case of NB product and called the person to say that the company checked the samples from 2 mins each way of the affected cans and everything appeared to be OK.
NB still uses...
Mai_kitties,
Could you please retrieve the cans and post the best by date and any other codes found on the can and label? Also list the type store - small or big box type, or chain. You may pm me the info if you prefer. This information will be helpful in trying of determine if this is a small...
The people with affected cans have notified all stores and NB and FDA. A report from the NB corp is expected today. Will post any updates to this situation.
Here are the photo links to the above food. Pictures were taken after food had been frozen so they are not that great.

I don't think that it is due to any change in ingredients because some of the cans processed after the one whose picture is posted are apparently OK. There are some who have gone out and purchased cans just to see how wide spread this is. I wish I knew if the persons whose can dates are posted...
