aw thanks xocats!
The bloodwork for Greta was good!
Her BUN is 24 and creatinine 2.4!
We are going to do sub-Q 2x/week now and pepcid daily.
The antibiotics are done for now. Vet thinks she might have had a kidney infection.
We are back for a checkup in a month!
we are very happy!
Maggie's...
Greta is doing pretty well at the moment. She is playing with a toy and acting like a kitten, in fact.
She is on QOD sub-q, clavamox and pepcid.
i am going to start switching her to the Feline Futures' raw diet for CRF tomorrow. This week I have been feeding her TJ's tuna for cats and Fancy...
thank you both so much.
incredibly, greta is home with us again for now.... the vet said after a day on IV fluids she was so feisty and loud that she was ok to come home. i have some doubts about that but he said when their BUN is under 100 he goes by "treat the cat not the numbers"... and the...
Hi everyone,
We took our other cat, Greta, to the vet this evening. she started vomiting and had a little diarrhea last night. She is 16.
She has kidney failure too.
Her BUN is 90.
We are taking her in tomorrow for IV fluids for a couple of days.
I just picked up Gracie's ashes tonight.
I can't...
Thank you all.
Brent and I went out and got frames for pictures of Gracie for our wall.
Then we had dinner at our favorite place, Absinthe, and had a few drinks in honor of Gracie.
We are now paying special attention to Greta, our siamese, so she isn't lonely.
I am going to go to bed early...
My sweet Gracie passed away at the vet's this morning. She had started to hide, and wasn't enjoying her normal cat activities any longer.
She had a good night. She slept with Mr Q for a while and then with me for a while (I was on the couch due to Mr Q's snoring). It was a sunny morning so...
Thank you all. I'm so sad I can't even cry.
Gracie is hiding in her Sherpa bag right now. She's really not very happy. I'm going to have to say goodbye pretty soon.
Thank you for you kind words and good wishes.
Hi,
We visited the vet again today. It's pretty clear Gracie has a tumor in her mouth, and she still has lost weight even with the force feeding.
We are going to do hospice care until she lets us know that she's ready to go.
Catlover, Clavamox made my kitty VERY nauseated. We had to switch to something else - but of course all cats are different. However, are you giving Pepcid or any anti-nausea medication? I know CRF makes cats feel very nauseated. Check with your vet. This can make all the difference in whether...
The vet's office will do it for you (but that's not cheap).
I suspect your kitty doesn't like being held down, or perhaps the fluids are cold. Do you warm the fluids? I've read that some cats are more comfortable if you put them in a box so they feel safer, or maybe a carrier with an open top...
catlover, chalk it up to a bad day.
I'm relatively new at CRF but I've been through hell and high water with my Gracie. Over the years, she's had diabetes, pancreatitis, hepatic lipidosis, arthritis, serious skin problems, all her teeth have been removed and I honestly can't remember what else...
Thank you for the quick response!
I agree. We increased from 100ml 1x/day to see if we could improve her BUN and creatinine, and as she was still dehydrated on 100ml / day, but I do think it's a little high for her.
She does not feel squishy or have any other symptoms of overhydration, but i...
Hi, thanks for the warming advice.
I've been giving 100ml 2x/day on the advice of my vet. I'm worried about heart failure now due to the increase in fluids, and last night I noticed her heart was beating slowly and very strongly, and today she seems to be breathing slow deep breaths. This isn't...
Thanks everyone!
She actually came into the kitchen this evening as I was setting up her fluids and medications. And now, after we're done, she's eating! and grooming herself! I haven't seen her groom herself in at least 2 weeks. I hope it's a good sign.
Oh - where do you all get the Terumo...
Thank you...
I have now gotten into a routine. Every day at the same time, twice a day, I go get all the pills, fluids, food and injectables together and ready. Then I go pick up the cat, put her on a table and get it done! Then I put her down gently and she goes and curls up under the covers...
OK here's what I've decided.
She will now get her medicines at a certain time every morning and evening. This is so that I don't spend hours dreading and wondering when I should do it. Also it'll make it all more routine for us. I give myself an hour to do it. Tonight it took 20 minutes and...
