A pilot study conducted by Dr. Conway (DVM) found that "processed pet food" (though what that is, is not defined in this interview by Dr. Becker of Dr. Conway) contains high levels of advanced glycation end products (AGE). Dr. Conway explained that the preliminary study, in which she looked at...
After beating large cell lymphoma, we thought Lazlo was indestructible. Always on alert for the return of the cancer, Lazlo put up with ultrasounds every six months. Every day of those "extra" four years and four months was a precious gift. :heart2: And that cancer never returned.
Our brave...
For those not familiar, we moved last year. We relocated 7 of the feral cats with us. We moved in November. We had them set up in cages in a summer tent. When we started letting them out in December, they kept returning to the tent rather than moving into the feral villas and using the feeding...
As long time members know, I've been feeding my cats raw for over three years. I started with commercial ground, but "had" to move to a modified prey model to accommodate the fact that most of my cats (at the time) started refusing to eat ground once they'd eaten chunks.
Well we have decided...
Yes, the former ferals are still in the back bedroom. Yes, we have decided to integrate them. But that's a different story. Sort of. What's happening with Bean is part of the reason why. :heart2:
A week ago Friday, I noticed Bean seemed ... subdued. Excited for the meal, but not really eating...
Our beautiful little fighter boy that beat the "massive mass" in his stomach (large cell lymphoma: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/234030/mega-massive-vibes-for-lazlo-urgent ) has a spot on his lungs that looks like it does when it is cancer, and is in the right place for it when it is cancer.
I...
I was reviewing this document by Spitze et al published in 2003 (UC Davis). http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/vmb/labs/aal/pdfs/spitze.pdf

It's so new the programs are still being built out. But as a board member ( :) ), I thought you'd like to know about it! The vision is Beth Frank's. She and Vicki Faretta felt many people in TNR felt isolated, and wanted to provide them a way to connect. They started a facebook group in...
and they haven't updated the website. Just a head's up for those using it full time or in rotation.

And so it was.
Whatever “this” was, it hit hard and fast. There were 2 or 3 days of Sheldon clearly not feeling quite right – but he played, ate, groomed, and bothered us for “brushies.” Then that Sunday morning, I woke up, went to check on him – and his nose was white. I checked his gums...
Background: He looked white on Sunday. Monday his hematocrit was 14. Tues 12. Wed 8. This morning 6. Monday he had blood work, Tuesday an ultrasound, Wed a bone marrow biopsy. Results are not back yet. A rush was put on it. Normal hematocrit (HCT) is 30% - 40%. Below 25% is anemic. Upper teens...
Last week Shel isn't finishing his food. ?????
Saturday, he has no real appetite. I get some food into him - and he throws it all up.
Sunday morning, I wake up to see him looking like this. Completely white. His gums are white.
I called the vet, and given it was Sunday and his blood work...
On Friday night, I noticed Spooky's ear tips were drooping.
Dr. Google pronounced the most common causes are:
- Hematoma
- Low potassium
- Dehydration
I gave her fluids until I could call the vet on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a friend sent me a link to the Merck Manuals "Miscellaneous...
:lol3: Love that title.
Sorry - keep forgetting to post this!
OK - so it is ONE dog. Totally not controlled - but I love this. It's one of those raw feeding myths that we can't find any basis in fact, yet we all have repeated it. So a vet decided to challenge it.
But ... doesn't it make...
Here's the post where we learned we have to move: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/283217/we-have-to-move-need-advice-on-relocating-6-9-feral-cats
We decided to use cages inside of a tent.
TCS angels donated cages! :heart2:
The kitties settled right in.
Baloo:
Next to him, his pal...
I am just completely blown away.
When we found out we had to move, and the house became a reality, people reached out to donate cages for the feral relocation. :heart2:
Then two feral villas were donated for shelters. :grphug2: AND then a heated cedar house up on a platform arrived...
Move day was Tuesday November 4. Gary had been having so many fevers and has been so sick, it was really difficult. I went back-and-forth between the RV and the house twice a day to care for the ferals. I took stuff from the RV with me on many of the drives over, but I really couldn't stay to do...
Anybody miss me? ;) :lol3:
I'm not exactly sure when we found out. I think it was early August. The RV park is closing for the winter. Actually, it started with - "I think I'm going to close the park for the winter." All the contractors told us not to worry, all the contractors will be back...
This is a referenced piece written by a vet: http://www.optimumchoices.com/Downloads/Mythology_of_Protein_Restriction_for_Dogs_with_Reduced_Renal_Function.pdf
The discussion is as regarding dogs. But the only diet work as re: protein amounts in cats with CKD that I'm familiar with is the Finco...
I can crate Baloo, Smokey, Khol, Froggie (if she's around), and Little Dot (if she's around). Treebie I can trap with the drop trap. Bean is new, and not yet neutered. He showed up a few days before we found out we have to move. I'm pretty sure I'll wait to trap him, so he goes to the vet, is...
