How much for an allergy test?

I just answered in your other thread. I think it was around $200 for the test and about another $200 for the serum. The dermatologist will shave your cat's side and test individual spots with different allergens, looking for any kind of reaction. It seems to be more accurate than a blood test...

What food allergen? w/o expensive test

The first thing a dermatologist would have you do is a food elimination trial to see if there is a food allergy or if it is some other kind of allergy. To do this trial, you need a food with very simple ingredients, preferably with an unusual protein source. Since Natural Balance has been a...

    Sleeping Squee closeups

What a cutie! Is one of her lids rolling in just a little bit? That happened to one of my dogs, and drops helped for a while, but she had to have surgery eventually.

    He's being a pest

This is precisely why I decided to start hanging out here. I know how to get dogs to stop doing things that I don't want them to do, but in all of my years of cat ownership, I have yet to figure out how to stop them from doing what I don't want them to do! Sarah used to remove wallpaper in...

    Cat Repellent Question

I haven't seen cat repellents that last a month, but with anything, I would have doubts that it would work for the full amount stated on any packaging. It would probably start to lose effectiveness somewhere along the way. I'd worry about what it might do if she comes into contact with it. I...

    Exercise Caution When Sunbathing

I'm afraid that I can't pass along your tummy scratches. Norman is NOT a fan of having his tummy scratched. I think he's sensitive of his "spare tire!" I really do adore this cat. The cat I had when I was last living at home lived to be 17. She passed away several years after I moved out...

Another Chemical Emerges in Pet Food Case

I've been reading everything I can get my hands on regarding this recall. The cyanuric acid is old news -- I saw something on it at least a week ago. The combination of the cyanuric acid & the melamine is what they are now suspecting to be the cause of the crystals, and those form in the...

    Here we go again

I have heard that the fountains really do help them to want to drink more water. Mine are pretty good water-drinkers anyway, and they are now getting moist food in the morning, so they're okay with that. I also give them food with some cranberries and/or blueberries in it. It does the same...

Should I donate it? The flavors aren't on the "list" but...

If they have wheat flour (maybe just labeled wheat?), wheat gluten, rice protein concentrate, or rice gluten listed on the label, I'd just toss them to err on the side of caution. Natura (makers of Innova & California Natural) say that all of their ingredients are domestically sourced.

Question for those that feed higher grade foods...confused

I know that with dog food, we commonly say that you feed less of a higher quality food, so I imagine that is also true of cat food. You need to feed more of the lower quality food because there is so much filler in it. My cats eat moist Innova Lite in the morning, and they eat less than 1/4 cup...
