My cat had about 5 open sores on his face that he kept scratching (the biggest 2 were at the base of his ears). Basically, any scratchy, itchy open round sore on their face is a hallmark of a food allergy. My vet gave him a shot of steroids that basically let them heal without his scratching...
So, he ate breakfast this am. The vet came and he is not dehydrated! This evening, he looks back to normal. Active, sitting on me. Ate all his dinner!
Thank God! And thank you so much for all your help. My vet also recommended baby food if this happens again.
Ok - so overall, much better. No vomiting today! (yay!). Ate about 1/4 small (3oz) can tuna w/o puking in the morning. Then I gave him about 3/4 can of wellness chicken and herring (I switched the flavor today as he would not eat his turkey flavor wellness) mixed it with some water. He ate...
thank you for your responses! To answer the last question, I feed him 2 cans of wet food a day (mixed with water and psillium) and he also has access to a small amt of grain free dry food all day (about a saucer full).
I just tried feeding him a little bit of wet food with water and he turned...
Just got back from the vet ER - I was wondering if anybody had a similar experience as me and if you have any advice.
My cat is about 8 years old, healthy and on a grain free diet. Here in NYC, we have been experiencing a heat wave (about 100 degrees every day) but I have my AC on all the time...
Please dont do that - its like cutting off the equivalent of our fingertips. You can get those plastic covers that go over their nails if you dont want to trim his nails - your vet can put them on for you.
I had my vet put soft paws on my cat - they were good but they really seemed to bother my cat.... especially in the first 3-4 days. The web site keeps saying how cats dont even notice them - that was NOT true for my cat. He kept licking his paws and trying to 'shake' them off. I got the clear...
The essential part of treatment for hepatic lipidosis is that they must eat - but since their liver is so sick, they are nauseus and have no appetite - thus they need to be force fed. I had a cat that died of it before we could get the feeding tube in. Force feedings are the key!
My cat loves to lick all plastic and vinyl - plastic bags, the shower curtain liner, everything. Also loves to chew on rubber bands. I absolutely am hypervigilant to keep all plastic (and rubber bands) away from him. He would probably chew the plastic bag if he had a chance.
My cat also had lots of facial lesions from food allergies - it was awful to look at his face. The steroid shot helped him to stop scratching so that the wounds could heal. Basically - it's just like food allergies in people - you have to do an elimination diet and try to eliminate one...
My cat was once 1-2lbs overwt and the first thing the vet recommended was limiting or eliminating the dry food. Think of a cat as a mini-lion or tiger - they have no use for dry food.
My cat just got a steroid shot for food allergies - skin doing much better, but he is just a little bit lethargic and purring/sitting on me less than before. Eating/drinking/peeing/pooping like normal (thank goodness!!!!!) - but I wanted to see if this slight behavior change was experienced by...
Which food did you use? His skin is much better now - he just got his steroid shot and the vet trimmed his hind nails. He is purring much less (and sitting on me less) after the steroid shot - did you (or anybody else) notice any such behavioral changes after a steroid shot?
My cat was just diagnosed with a food allergy - scratched the heck out of his face (at the corners of his ears and his jaw) - just got a steroid shot. Normally the vet would rx one of the hypo-allergenic diets, but my vet is hesitant to do so until this recall nonsense quiets down. I switched...
First, my cat does not have ear mites or an infection. About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that he stopped eating his nutro dry food, then about 2 weeks ago, started hiding and was about half eating his nutro wet food (it was the lamb and turkey cutlets that was added to the recall list just last...
