    The "Tiny" Weight Loss Thread

Congratulations Tiny! You can do it!!! About 2 years ago, Bailey weighed around 31 pounds. He's a big boy, but 31 pounds is still 31 pounds. He got sick and the pounds started melting away. I took him to Iowa State where he was diagnosed with IBD and we started him on Royal Canin canned...

    Questions about omega-3 supplements

Thank you for your input. Cloud Shade, Katy had a free T4 done in December 2008 and it was normal. Katy's always been a dream to pill . . . until I started giving her the potassium gel. She really hates getting her meds now. I'll definitely go the pill route if she continues to need...

    Questions about omega-3 supplements

Katy is 16 and has some chronic health issues. Four years ago, she was diagnosed with HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) which has been treated since then. At the same time she was diagnosed with hyperT and had I131. That same year, she was also diagnosed with IBD and has been on oral...

    helping fat cat lose weight

My Bailey started out at 31 pounds in January of last year. He got sick and I found out that he had IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). Of course I knew that he needed to lose weight, but this time the vets told me that I had no choice . . . I had to do something! They gave me 2 different food...

    cuddles/surgery today,update

My Katy had several teeth removed last year. The only thing she'll eat is dry food, I mean, she won't touch anything else! Not canned food, not tuna, not baby food. I tried soaking some of her dry food in warm water, but she she wouldn't eat that either. I'd talked to the vet before the...

Ideas or Suggestions Needed re: Meds

The Cosequin can just be pilled, it doesn't have to be sprinkled onto Callie's food. Katy eats only dry food and that's how I have to give Cosequin to her. If you've giving L-lysine in the capsules, that might be a little more difficult because they're huge!

    I-131 Treatment

The regulations vary from state to state. From what I've heard from other people, Iowa is more liberal than a lot of other states. I have 2 other cats too and they were able to use the same litter boxes. I just used regular litter but was given a special container to put the used litter into...

    I-131 Treatment

Katy had I131 done 2 years ago this summer and she had no problems with it. The hardest part was just having her stay at the vet school for several days and then once she got home being careful of having her too close to me for too long and taking care of the litter. Her thyroid levels were...

    Pet medications

I just ordered Cosequin from 1-800PetMeds and it was half the price of what my vet charges! A box of 80 sprinkle capsules costs me $40 at my vet and I can get it for just under $20 from 1-800PetMeds. If you order anything over $35, then the shipping is free, so I just ordered 2 boxes because...

    Hyperthyroid and Not Tolerating Methimazole

I don't have any suggestions for you other than I131. Katy had the same problems with Tapazole . . . OMG, she got so sick from it! She was able to have I131 though. I hope you and your vet can come up with something that will help Oberon.

    Wet food suggestion for IBD?

A lot of times, the vets will put IBD kitties on a novel protein diet which is a protein they've not been exposed to in the past such as duck, rabbit or venison. IVD/Royal Canin makes some good ones that cats seem to like, at least for awhile but they're by prescription only. Nature's Variety...

Yea, Jordan! It's amazing how fast pred can start working!

Anyone ever have a cat on pred?

I don't think it's really that uncommon to start them on 10 mg a day and work their way down. Periodically, Chloe's pred will be increased up to 10 mg for awhile, then down to 7.5 and finally back to 5. In fact, she just finished a course of this. I hope your "old Jordan" comes back to you...

Anyone ever have a cat on pred?

I know what you mean about the way people react when they realize what you're doing and how much you're spending on Jordan. But you know what? I don't care. I'm the one who has to live with my decisions and so far they're been the right decisions for me and my cats! Chloe has been on 5 mg...

    IBD Questions

Katy and Chloe were diagnosed by endoscopies and Bailey by exploratory surgery. Actually, Bailey underwent surgery because they thought they found a mass outside of his intestine that they couldn't get to by endoscopy. Thankfully, the mass turned out to be an adhesion (scar tissue), but by...

    IBD Questions

I have 3 cats and all 3 have IBD . . . can you believe it? IBD can be diagnosed by x-ray alone, but the best way to make a definitive diagnosis is by endoscopy or exploratory surgery. IBD is a frustrating disease. Each of my cats have different symptoms and different kinds of stools. Of my...

is a cat being overweight asspc w/constipation?

Bailey went through a bout of terrible constipation earlier this year. He's a huge cat, tall and long, but his weight in February had gotten up to nearly 31pounds. I kept 2 litter boxes in the basement and he'd been defecating outside the box periodically for a few months, but I couldn't...

    Cat ate a Rubber Band

I can't say whether or not this is an emergency for your kitty, but several years ago one of my cats ate a rubber band. I called the vet and they just told me to check her stools really well over the next 48 hours to make sure she passed it, and if she didn't, then I'd need to take in her...
