please help, I think Izzy is depressed!

Boots is an outdoor cat - in summer! Now that Winter is coming he doesn't go out nearly as much. So we just entertain him at home! He does go out on the odd occassion but not everyday like summertime. So, I don't think Izzy is depressed he probably just wants to stay inside in the warmth.

How do you curb nipping in kittens?

We keep a spray bottle of water handy and everytime Boots started getting a bit "rough" we told him to stop if he didn't he got sprayed. He doesn't bite anymore!! On the odd occassion he might try to attack feet in the morning but he's so cute now, he doesn't use claws or teeth - he just...

Boots is using his litter - finally!!!

Finally!!!! It's been 10 days now and no incidents in the guest bedroom. We started using potting soil instead of litter and what do you know - straight in and does the business! He misses the box sometimes but he is in there, that is the most important thing! So now we are mixing litter and...

    Litter problem persists

He has actually had the two litter boxes since we got him. I think he just hates litter to be honest. He'll only use it if really desperate - he's only peed in it once. I know that letting him out all the time probably doesn't help but he is an outdoor kitty and he plays with the kitty...

    Cat Grass....good or bad?!

My old putty cat Pudding loved cat grass but it made him really sick everytime. I eventually had to stop growing it! I think some kitty cats just cant keep it down! But good to hear its going better now!

You could never starve a cat...

Everytime we go into the kitchen Boots starts to wrap himself around our legs - one of these days I'm going to fly all of my length!!! He meows and looks up at us with those eyes that could melt steel....... And he generally gets his way. Andy, who insists that he doesn't even like the...

my cat's meowing in the bathroom!!

Boots adores the bathroom and especially the bath. He can play with the plug for hours on end - as long as I'm in the next room. And whenever he cannot get the plug out of the hole he sits and meows/screams at it as if to say "why can't I do this!!" He gets really frustrated!! Could be...

    Litter problem persists

Finally Boots has used his litter!!!! Well its not really litter but potting soil (thanks for the tip missymotus)!! We still have the two litter trays - he has peed in one (the one with the real litter and lots of catnip) and using the other one for poo (twice in 5 days)!! We were so elated...

    Litter problem persists

Well, we went out this weekend and got ANOTHER kind of litter - which is really small and more like sand than litter and we sprayed it with CatNip. And Boots used it to pee (for the first time in months!!!!) However, he refused to use it to poop! He wakes us up at 5am (OK during the week...

    Litter problem persists

I've just been reading another post and something just clicked! Now I don't know if this is a flash of inspiration or a terrible idea. Could I get a large dog crate and put Boots into the crate to try and retrain him to use a litter tray? Or would that frighten the bejesus out of him? He...

    Litter problem persists

I'm going to try another type of litter than we can apparently get in Germany (France is rubbish, there are only two types here). This litter is really fine (like sand) but it clumps - which sand does not do. We also have to try some cat nip in the litter tray - anything to get him to go into...

    Litter problem persists

We're almost out of hope now and patience!! Andy now hates the cat, it's all getting too much. Boots knows what the litter tray is for because I found him peeing in it yesterday. I was ecstatic!! I went out to the shops, back 30 minutes later and there was poo everywhere - all over the...

    Litter problem persists

Thanks for all the quick replies. Just a few answers to questions. I have two different types of litter and that makes no difference. In France we do not get a huge variety so I've tried them all now. I can try the catnip thing - I think we can get that here, sure I've seen in the pet shop...

    Litter problem persists

Hi Again. I'm almost at the end of my tether with our kitten Boots refusing to use his litter tray. During the summer it was no problem, he would cry to get out to go and do his business. However, it is getting cold outside, winter is fast approaching and our temps can get as low as -20°C...

    Pooping problem

Its been months now and the problem is......well sort of fixed. I now have 3 litter boxes....the main one, one at the plant where he pooped and one in the spare room in the corner. He simply ignores them all!! I think that basically he just prefers to do it outside - he cries to get out to...

    Kitten using plant as bathroom

I tried everything to stop my kitten doing this : cat repellent, vinegar, big stones (just dug them up too), black pepper......finally I put tinfoil over the pot. Cats hate tinfoil, Boots hasn't touched the plant since!

Can you make an outdoor cat an indoor one?

Hi there, It is possible to turn an outdoor cat into an indoor cat. When I moved to Paris my friends decided to take care of my cat since I didn't want him to live in an apartment in the city since he was used to outdoor life. But they decided (after he got injured once) that they should...

    My cat wont shut up!

My kitten Boots is exactly the same. He plays with the cat next door sometimes for days on end. But at home he drives me insane.....to the point that we sometimes have to put him outside for our own sanity! I don't know what he wants when he is being vocal as he has food and milk and...

    Pooping problem

Well the pooping problem persists. We have been to the vet - no problems with Kitty! I've added a second litter tray with the type of litter that he had before we brought him home. And still he poops in the plant. I tried lemon, vinegar, black peppar and cat repelant. Nothing worked. So I...

    Pooping problem

Hi Pami, Thanks for the post. Is it not wierd though that for the first few weeks he used his litter for both pee and poo and only now is having a problem with it?
