With true ferals, though, you can't spend the time scanning them and such- you have to know from sight if they are fixed or not.

The ear-clipping is so that the cats that are TNR'd could be recognized. If they didn't do it, and they re-trapped the same cat at a later date, they wouldn't know if it had been fixed until it got into surgery. There really isn't another way- especially if they are true ferals. Ear-clipping is...
