    Kitten found!

We found a very small kitten at work yesterday and could not find any signs of other cats. It was very cold and unhappy. We scooped him up and warmed him and I took him home. I stopped by the vet and they said he looks healthy, doesn't have a temperature and looks to be about 3 weeks. We've...

A new dog in the house...

Still hanging out in the computer room with the litter box since I have most of the other doors with cool hiding spaces closed. I occasionally bring her food and water in so she can have a snack but I know for sure she's been to her food dish herself. Baby steps.

A new dog in the house...

This time it's a good one! Emma is in the windowsill, I'm at the desk, Dexter is on the floor asleep. She let him sniff her a few times and hopefully she'll figure out he's not too interested. I've closed all the bedroom doors so she can't hide in another room except the kitchen, bathroom...

A new dog in the house...

Emma ventured around in the bedroom last night while Dexter was crated but obivously did not eat any food today while he was crated. She was in the closet when I got home. I moved her to the room where her litter box is and brought in her bowls of food and water. She also went to the bathroom...

A new dog in the house...

I don't know where she is but she's not in her hiding spot. She must have snuck out when we took Dexter outside. That's a good sign.

A new dog in the house...

It doesn't appear that she's eaten anything. A few minutes ago, I took her the food and water in the closet (it's a pretty large walk-in closet off from our bathroom) and she ate and drank immediately. I've put Dexter in another room and brought her out but she's wide-eyed, scared and...

A new dog in the house...

We brought home a medium size dog this weekend from the SPCA. Dexter is a 8-12 month old Lab/Hound and is very friendly towards Emma, our 4-year old cat who has been the only pet for 2 years. Dexter has only been around her a few times that she's crept out but Emma has been in hiding since...

    Tapeworms

Emma barfed a tape worm awhile back. Apparently she got it from a mouse she caught a few months before. I called the vet and he didn't need to see her. He prescribed a one-dose treatment. It was a tiny red pill but I don't know what it was called. I don't recall it being expensive at all...

Site to send pet sympathy e-cards?

My online friend's pet died and I would like to send her an appropriate ecard expessing my sympathy. Although a regular sympathy card would work, a pet-related one would be nice. Thanks.

    Say what?

Emma is very vocal. Although I have no idea what she's saying, I can tell my her meow what she wants. She has all sorts of meows and when I ask her if she's hungry, she has one that sounds like "yeahhh....". LOL. How about a leash? I've heard of people putting their cats on leashes so they...

Change in mood due to weather/seasons?

Does anyone notice changes in their cats when the temperatures change or it's super gloomy outside? In Virginia, we've had more rain than sunshine in the past two months (15 out of 21 days in June were rain). And on the days that we don't have rain, it turns super-hot. It's the most ridiculous...

    question about Kilz primer

Kilz does work very well for saturated plywood that is underneath carpet. Before moving into an apartment, we had to do the same thing. I wouldn't take Marshmellow until it's carpeted. The smell won't last forever but she might lick it. Be sure to open windows and use fans to get the smell...

    Bringing a new cat home?

We have a four year old cat named Emma. We rescued her from the SPCA two years ago. She is a wonderful cat....very active and loving. We would like to get another cat, and probably rescue another young adult female. What are the best steps in doing this? Emma has been around other cats and...

    At-home hairball remedies?

Emma's cat food is a hairball formula but with the temperatures rising, she's been shedding more and bathing more. I brush her frequently (she thinks she's being spoiled!) but about once a week lately, she barfs a huge hairball. I know this isn't fun for her. I know I can buy some stuff from...

    What the heck??

In my personal experience, the cream is harder to get into their ears, especially if they hate it. Emma drools and fights when anyone tries to do anything to her, even just hold her firmly. The drops were much more user-friendly with her. Quick and easy.

    Rectal bleeding

I also wanted to add that she had a tapeworm a little over a year ago that caused a lot of throwing up. She puked the tapeworm up and was given medicine. She hasn't shown any signs of tapeworm since then. We looked through the house and we see no signs of mice. She does not eat any table...

    Rectal bleeding

Emma, who is three, just emerged from her litter box meowing and trailing poop around the house. She appeared to be in pain. The poop had bright red blood in it and she had blood on her butt as well. We cleaned her up, scooped up some of the poop and put it in a Ziploc bag. Being New Year's...

    Spraying for bugs

We just moved into a new house and since it's been open for some time, we are infested with spiders. Does anyone know of any treatments that are safe for having animals around? I plan on going to look but didn't know if anyone has come across a specific brand. If not, I plan to evacuate Emma...
