thanks for your replies!
okay. so the friskies special diet is okay, and i do have about 4 cans in the house. that's good.
and she likes it. even better.
any other suggestions? what about kibble? how is wellness core?
the vet didn't discourage kibble at all. he just said that i need to...
i hope i'm putting this is the right forum! feel free to relocate, if needed.
we found that my ruby has crystals in her urine.
so i need to switch her foods.
any recommendations? the vet suggested friskies canned (low pH, low magnesium - it says it on the label).
but it feels wrong feeding...
thanks. my MIL has to call the vet for the results fo the dog's bloodwork this morning. i'll have her ask if we need to worry about the dog's hookworms being contagious and if we should treat the cats for hookworm as a precaution.
thanks.
i apologize for asking a probably much repeated question. i need an answer fairly quickly and google was not my friend today.
mil's dog was just to the vet - hookworm. she's staying with the dog at my house. the cats are basically separated from the dog. do i need to worry about my girls...
i agree...the zoom groom is worth it's money!
ruby (my black and white) has a nice, thick coat, with the white hairs being longer than the black. she's a skittish girl, although she's gotten a LOT better in the past several months. and as skittish as she is, she will let me zoom her for 15-20...
i'm not sure if this is health/nutrition or behavior, so feel free to move if need be.
dh & i are going on vacation tomorrow.
yesterday, i brought my two girls to my parents house (1 1/2 hour drive). they've been there before, but it's been a long time. they also know my parents from visits...
some cats absolutely do not like their nails clipped. i take ruby to her vet once a month. for $5, he gets to be the bad guy, and i get the love when we get home. roxy would let anyone clip her claws. (just wanted to give you another perspective - good luck to you!)
petsmart house brand - on sale $10.99 for 40lbs. exquisicat premium unscented clumping litter. it's clay, yes, but i won't switch, unless they change the formula.
my litterboxes are in the laundry room, which is in my foyer. i scoop once a day, and NO ONE says anything about cat odor when...
i highly recommend the omega paws self-cleaning litter box. you don't take the top off. you roll it side to side (you can see that the top is rounded). the litter is sifted inside by a "vent" (for lack of a better word). then you roll it back upright, pull the drawer out and dispose of the...
my tuxedo girl, ruby, does that! usually, it's so she can reach fabric (tablecloth, jacket hanging on the back of a chair) to rub her face against. but lately, she's started doing it just because. and she's a moose: she does it against the back of my knee, and if i'm not expecting it, my leg...
roxy is one stubborn cat.
for the first month or so after she was de-quarantined, we had to line the kitchen table and the kitchen counters with tin foil. #1) it makes an awful sound that she just doesn't like. and #2) it was just laid across the counters, so when her front paws landed, she...
i've noticed that, with my two, when they're playing, they don't make any vocal noises. at all. once in a blue moon, i'll hear a hiss or a low growl, and the other one backs off (usually fighting over a fresh batch of catnip )
glad they're getting along better!
if WBCL was new to kitty, she may have been attracted to the smell of the corn. it won't hurt her. (i had a cat who did this. once the litter was dirty, tho, she didn't eat it anymore.)
roxy, my monster, is a beggar. she will eat anything; hence, her nickname, "hoover".
a few months ago, she figured out that when dh & i sit down at the table, there's usually food involved, and she thought we should share. cue the loud "merrrrrrrrrow"ing and trilling and leg rubbing.
i began...
ruby is a former feral that is *just now* getting to the point that i'm allowed to pet her. she doesn't like to be held or picked up or restrained in any way, and i, too, have the scars to prove it.
for the two weeks before her vet visit, her carrier was out, open, with her pad inside. and...
i just switched from World's Best to Exquisicat Unscented (PetSmart's brand) and i like it a lot better. it clumps much harder and faster than WBL, which means fewer crumbles in the boxes.
and the kitties seem to have no problem at all with the switch.
also, i think there is LESS dust...
i was a World's Best user...loved it for a year or so.
then, i lost my job and needed something on the less $$$ end of the spectrum.
i'm now using PetSmart's house brand (Exquisicat) of unscented clumping litter, and i've found that it clumps harder and faster...which means less "crumbs" from...
thank you all for taking the time to read and respond to my questions.
i've talked w/ my dh, and we've decided that letting the vet clip her claws once a month will be the ideal solution.
to the pp who mentioned letting the vet be the "bad guy", you're absolutely right. as it is, ruby doesn't...
