Anal gland problems recurring - seeking advice, experiences

Wow, has it been my summer for feline woes! I'm just getting Petey over his broken hip, and now another issue has cropped back up for the second time in a month. One of my male Siamese is having a recurring issue with one of his anal glands. He's 5 1/2 years old, otherwise in perfect...

Need advice - Incision not healing fast enough????

Just a quick update -- the incision is FINALLY starting to look totally closed up. Whew. Hoping and praying nothing goes wrong between now and Wed evening to get these staples out. Poor boy, he's starting to go completely insane from that e-collar.

    17wks suckeling on blanket

There's a name for this condition - technically it's called pica. I've had various cats over many years do things like this. I don't think it's a big issue unless they actually start eating what they're suckling on. I had a Siamese who wanted to EAT wool. She managed to eat almost an entire...

Kitty having trouble breathing, peeing on blanket..angry?

FIP is a horrible thing. I lost a cat to it some years ago. It came on very suddenly and we spent a week, a lot of vet trips, and a lot of money and we couldn't save him. However, before you put him down, be aware, FIP is frequently misdiagnosed. In fact, from what I've read, it's one of...

    Advice needed

Hi there, I've never used Nutri-cal, though I have nursed a number of orphans and rejected kittens in my life. Some kittens just don't take quickly to solid food and there is no easy answer! You might actually try some raw turkey burger or ground chicken. Or (and this is going to sound odd)...

    Kitten acting strange

No idea why it's happening, but you may have to isolate one kitten from the other. The last thing you want is an infected incision. I'm not sure I'd try to actually bandage it -- cats are notoriously clever at getting things like that off them.

    Angry, Clinic Lied, Cat Euthanized

OMG, that's awful! Even if she was positive, they should have advised you, given you the choice, etc. A few years ago we tried to take in a stray that turned out to be positive, and we made the choice to put him down as he was otherwise not in good shape, but to not even let you make the...

Thanks. I did ask about that and he told me not to put anything on it, so I'm not.

Need advice - Incision not healing fast enough????

Hi, thanks for the replies. No, I'm quite sure he's not diabetic -- he only just turned two. I am probably needlessly worrying -- I am a champion at it after all, lol. And yes, it was MAJOR surgery.

HELP PLEASE cat stopped eating and drinking, please respond

When I've had very sick cats and they would eat nothing else, Gerber Lamb baby food has worked, also chicken and turkey, but lamb has always been at the top of their list. Sending good your way. It's not fun trying to force food into a cat with a syringe, but sometimes it's the only way to...

    Help!

If it was just on your kitty, my guess would be a fight, but if two animals have it, I'm betting it's some kind of parasite. Ring worm is as good a guess as any.

    Heart disease and diarrhea questions-Mufasa

Maine Coons are unfortunately prone to cardiomyopathy. I lost my first MC to that at age 14. There are some relatively inexpensive drugs on the market that can slow it down, and Monster had a pretty high quality of life right up to the last few days. (He was only diagnosed with it at 12...

Need advice - Incision not healing fast enough????

Hi everyone, My Maine Coon had hip surgery (broken hip) two weeks ago yesterday. I took him back to the vet last night for suture removal, and he looked at the incision and said "He's not ready yet." And he seemed to imply he's not healing as fast as expected. I've been doing my absolute...

Legge-Perth Syndrome - information and experiences?

Just a quick update -- that was NOT the case with Petey, thank God! My vet said he has seen this syndrome, but only in dogs, and it's screamingly obvious on the xrays. So apparently it was a case of a bad landing. Happily, he's on the mend, and stitches come out in a week. That will be a...

I'm going to have a big cat....

Hi there, Yes I have a purebred Maine Coon male. He was the smallest boy in his litter, and his mother is pretty small for the breed, so I thought I would be getting a mid sized male, which is all I was looking for. Silly me, all I got was a slow starter! Within a week after I got him home...

    Semi-new - it's been awhile since I visited....

Hi everyone, It's been a long while since I visited the forum, so I thought I'd briefly introduce my tribe. I have four babes: Crowley and Jango are my two Siamese, about 5 1/2 years old. They're old style seal points, so they are not tiny cats. Crowley is the "sweet demon pie" of the...

Cat in Elizabethan collar after surgery - trying to make sure he can drink

Hi there again, My giant Maine Coon baby had to have surgery after he broke his hip. (See the Legge-Perth syndrome thread.... ) He's been sent home in one of the E-collars, which is of course driving him crazy. But our vet is adamant that he wear it until the stitches come out in another 10...

Legge-Perth Syndrome - information and experiences?

Hi Tricia, Thanks so much for the links. I tried "googling" it myself but got no results because I guess I was spelling it wrong. I'll try to find some time to read all of these before Monday. Karen
